GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Bibb County

Macon, GA (September 22, 2022) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Macon, Georgia. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on September 21, 2022. No one was injured in the incident.

Putnam County Man Charged with the Sexual Exploitation of Children

Eatonton, GA (September 21, 2022) – On Wednesday, September 14, 2022, James Collins, Jr., age 45, of Putnam County, GA, was arrested for six counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit. The GBI CEACC Unit began an investigation into Collins’ online activity after receiving a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the possible online distribution of child sexual abuse material. This investigation led to a search warrant of Collins’ home and his subsequent criminal charges. The GBI CEACC unit was aided in the search warrant execution of Collins’ home and in the arrest of Collins by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Cobb County

Marietta, GA (September 15, 2022) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Marietta, Georgia. The Cobb County Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on September 14, 2022. One man was shot and died from his injuries.  No officers were injured in this incident.  

Thomson Man, EMS Personnel Hospitalized after Fentanyl Exposure

Three EMS personnel in Thomson, GA are recovering after responding to the scene of what investigators believe was a fentanyl overdose that left one man dead and another man in medical distress. 

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Habersham County

Four Arrested for Trafficking Fentanyl & Methamphetamine after Two-Month Drug Trafficking Investigation

Tift County, GA (September 12, 2022) – On Tuesday, August 30, 2022, the GBI Southwestern Regional Drug Enforcement Office (SWRDEO) and the Tift County Sheriff’s Office concluded a two-month drug trafficking investigation that resulted in the arrests of four people and the seizure of illegal drugs representing a combined value of $710,000.00.

Monroe, GA (September 12, 2022) –  The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Walton County, GA. The Walton County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on September 12, 2022. One man was shot and died. No deputies were injured in this incident.

Three Homerville Women Arrested for Unlicensed Gaming Operation

Homerville, GA (September 10, 2022) – On Thursday, September 8, 2022, Gloria Marshall, age 61, Patricia Thomas, age 65, and Lisa Trimble, age 55, all of Homerville, were arrested and charged with Operating Unlicensed COAMS (Felony), Commercial Gambling (Felony), and Keeping a Gambling Place (Misdemeanor). The GBI’s Commercial Gambling Unit, along with the Clinch County Sheriff’s Office, the Homerville Police Department, the Georgia State Patrol, and in cooperation with the Georgia Lottery Corporation executed search warrants at one unlicensed location at 3665 Pearson Highway in Homerville, and one residence.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Columbus

Columbus, GA (September 8, 2022) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Columbus, GA. The Columbus Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. One man, Reginald Lamont Grant II, age 30, of Columbus was shot and died. One officer was shot during this incident.

Michigan Woman Missing for 33 Years Identified with Genealogy Technology

UPDATE:

Dekalb County, GA (September 6, 2022) Henry Fredrick Wise, AKA Hoss Wise, has been identified through genealogy DNA as Stacey Chahorski’s killer. Wise would have been 34 at the time of Chahorski’s murder in 1988.  Wise was a truck driver, traveling the route for Western Carolina trucking company, driving through Chattanooga to Birmingham to Nashville and was also a stunt driver. In 1999, Wise was killed in a car accident at Myrtle Beach Speedway in South Carolina and was burned to death. Wise had a criminal history in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, ranging from theft, assault, to obstruction of a police officer. Wise’s arrests predate mandatory DNA testing after felony arrest.

Dade County, GA (March 24, 2022) – A Michigan woman who had been missing for 33 years has been identified as Stacey Lyn Chahorski of Norton Shores, Michigan.  On Friday, December 16, 1988, at around 2:00 p.m., the Dade County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI responded to the scene of a body located about 5 miles from the Alabama Stateline on I-59 northbound lane in Dade County, GA.  The body was of an unidentified woman that had been killed.  

For years, GBI agents and Dade County investigators worked diligently to identify the victim.  A GBI forensic artist made clay renderings and drew composites to recreate what the victim would look like in hopes of identifying her.
