Division of Forensic Sciences (DOFS)
Established in 1952 as the second statewide Crime Laboratory in the United States, the Division of Forensic Sciences furnishes scientific support to the Criminal Justice System of Georgia. Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC)
The Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) was established in 1973 as an operating division within the GBI to serve as the chief provider of criminal justice information services in Georgia. Since then, the principal mission of GCIC has been to assist all officials and agencies of the criminal justice system in the fulfillment of their varied responsibilities on a statewide basis by providing round-the-clock access to needed information.

Investigative Division
The Investigative Division, under the direction of the Deputy Director for Investigations, is the largest division of the GBI with over 350 employees, working in Regional Offices, Regional Drug Enforcement Offices and other work units that provide specialized services in criminal investigations. Special agents from the Investigative Division respond to requests for assistance from local law enforcement officials to investigate major crimes such as: homicide, rape, child abuse, armed robbery, fraud and other felonies. Legal Division
Established on July 1, 2020 pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 35-3-3, the Legal Division is an independent division within the GBI. Attorneys in the Legal Division are members of the State Bar of Georgia and provide legal guidance through the Bureau, serve as the liaison between the GBI and Department of Law, and are authorized to serve as Special Assistant United States Attorneys, District Attorneys, or Solicitors General at the request of any appropriate agency and the approval of the Director. The Legal Division also responds to requests for information received pursuant to the Georgia Open Records Act, and oversees the Accreditation Unit.

Medical Examiner's Office
The Medical Examiner's Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation provides complete forensic pathology services to 153 of Georgia's 159 counties in deaths which qualify as coroner cases under the Georgia Death Investigation Act. The Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Georgia oversees the GBI's medical examiner (M.E.) program and also establishes policies and guidelines for all Georgia coroners and local medical examiners.
