GBI Searching for Suspect in Hawkinsville Homicide

Hawkinsville, GA (July 8, 2020) – On Wednesday, July 8, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Eastman Office was requested by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a shooting that occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. on the same date at a residence located at 19 Jelks Street, Hawkinsville, Pulaski County, GA. 

GBI Arrests Colquitt County Jailer

Moultrie, GA (July 7, 2020) – On Saturday, June 27, 2020, about 2:21 pm, the GBI was requested by Colquitt County Sheriff Rod Howell to investigate a use of force incident involving Colquitt County Jailer Russell Harris. Harris was involved in a physical altercation with inmate Bobby Ellerson who had been fighting with another inmate. Inmate Ellerson was treated for injuries at a local hospital as a result of the altercations with the other inmate and Jailer Harris.

GBI Investigates Norcross Murder

Norcross, GA (July 6, 2020) – On Sunday, July 5, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Atlanta Regional Office was requested by the Norcross Police Department to conduct a murder investigation. Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 5:03 a.m., Norcross PD received a 911 call about shots fired at the Fusion Event Hall, 5130 Brook Hollow Parkway, Norcross, Gwinnett County, GA. Officers responded to the location and found Alejandro J. Ramirez, 35, of Alpharetta, with apparent gunshot wounds. Ramirez was transported to a local area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

GBI Arrests Superior Court Judge for Battery Related to Family Violence

Tallapoosa, GA (July 2, 2020) – On Thursday, July 02, 2020, the GBI arrested Superior Court Judge Meng Lim and charged him with one misdemeanor count of battery under the Georgia Family Violence Act.  Judge Lim is the Chief Superior Court Judge of the Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit in the Seventh Superior Court District of Georgia.

On Tuesday, February 18, 2020, the GBI was requested by the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an investigation into an allegation of physical domestic abuse involving Judge Lim. 

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Cobb County

Cobb County, GA (June 26, 2020) – On Thursday, June 25, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Cobb County Police Department to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 6:55 p.m., the Cobb County Police Department (CCPD) received a request from the Atlanta Police Department to check the parking lot of the Publix, 2900 Delk Road, Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia, for a stolen vehicle.  When officers arrived at the location and located the stolen vehicle, they were notified by a citizen that they had just been carjacked. 

GBI Investigates Inmate Death in Lumpkin County

Dahlonega, GA (June 26, 2020) – On Thursday, June 25, 2020 at approximately 10:45 a.m.,  the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to investigate an inmate death by the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office. The initial information was at approximately 10:38 a.m., Lumpkin County inmate Randall Thomas Hanley, 38, of Dahlonega, GA, was found hanging in his jail cell. Lumpkin County officers performed lifesaving measures and ultimately EMS transported Hanley to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:00 p.m. 

Seven Arrested for Drug Sales in LaGrange Restaurant

LaGrange, GA (June 24, 2020) – On Thursday, June 11, 2020, the GBI West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office and LaGrange Police Department concluded a seven month undercover investigation at the Main Street Pub located at 120 Main Street, LaGrange, GA. The investigation resulted in seven arrests for Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act. Undercover drug purchases originated and occurred inside the Main Street Pub and involved employees and patrons of the business.

“Operation The Real McCoy” Yields 47 Arrests for Gang & Drugs Charges

Pickens County, GA (June 24, 2020) – As a result of a 9-month investigation known as “Operation The Real McCoy,” the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) served 47 arrest warrants for multiple charges including gang and drug related offenses.

In September 2019, Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS) agents began an investigation into a supply chain of methamphetamine into Cherokee County.  The initial investigations led CMANS agents to DeKalb and Gwinnett counties and members of the Ghostface Gangsters.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Use of Force Incident in Wrens, GA

Wrens, GA (June 22, 2020) - On Saturday, June 20, 2020, at approximately 10:30AM, the GBI was requested by Wrens Police Chief Jamey Kitchens to investigate a use of force incident that occurred on Friday, June 19, 2020 involving a Wrens Police Officer.

UPDATE - GBI Investigates Shooting in Berrien County

Nashville, GA (June 22, 2020) – On Wednesday, December 11, 2019, juvenile complaints were taken for the juvenile subject that shot the juvenile victim on November 25, 2019. The complaints were for Misdemeanor Reckless Conduct and Misdemeanor Pointing a Gun at Another. Through coordination with the Department of Juvenile Justice, the juvenile subject was released to the custody of his parents. The case file has since been turned over to the Alapaha Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
