Atlanta, GA (February 23, 2022) - The woman involved in this officer involved shooting has been identified as Bryana Coleman, age 23.
Atlanta, GA (February 11, 2022) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting Atlanta, GA. The Atlanta Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Thursday, February 10, 2022. One woman is shot and in the hospital. No officers were injured.
Perry, GA (February 22, 2022) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting Perry, GA. The Perry Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. One man was shot and has died. No officers were injured.
Emanuel County, GA (February 22, 2022) – On Monday, February 21, 2022, Robert “Ricky” Richard Hatten, age 47, Joshua Burris, age 31, Jody Clifton, age 41, and Rebecca Wilkerson, age 38, all from Emanuel County, were arrested following a joint drug investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Southeastern Regional Drug Enforcement Office (SRDEO) and the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Georgia State Patrol K-9. During the execution of a search warrant, agents seized two long guns, two handguns along with ammunition, approx. 7.3 ounces of suspected methamphetamine/ ICE, 5.4 ounces of suspected marijuana, and drug related paraphernalia.
Sautee Nacoochee, GA (February 21, 2022) – On Thursday, February 17, 2022, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit, with the assistance of the White County Sheriff’s Office, the GBI Cleveland field office, the GBI Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) unit, the GBI Georgia Information Sharing and Analysis Center, and the GBI’s Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, executed two residential search warrants related to separate investigations pertaining to the Sexual Exploitation of Children. The investigations began after the GBI CEACC Unit received independent and unrelated cybertips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Those cybertips involved the possession and/or distribution of explicit child sexual abuse material, commonly referred to as child pornography, which resolved to White County, GA.
Johns Creek, GA (February 21, 2022) – On Friday, February 18, 2022, a residential search warrant was executed by the GBI Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit with assistance from the Johns Creek Police Department. GBI Agents and Digital Forensic Investigators searched the home of Joshua Newsome, age 43, in Johns Creek, Georgia. The search warrant was in reference to a proactive online investigation by members of the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force into individuals sharing files of child sexual abuse material via the internet. During the search of Newsome’s residence, Agents seized electronic devices used by Newsome to both possess and distribute child sexual abuse material. As a result, Newsome was arrested for six counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children (Distribution of Child Pornography) and one count of Sexual Exploitation of Children (Possession of Child Pornography).
Savannah, GA (February 21, 2022) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Savannah, Georgia. The Savannah Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at around 5:00 a.m. No officers were injured in this incident. Zachary Smith, age 24, of Ellabell, Georgia, was injured and remains in the hospital.
The preliminary information indicates that around 4:25 a.m., an individual confronted Savannah Police Department officers saying that he had been robbed at gunpoint. The man provided a description and a name (Zachary Smith) to the officers. The description and call details were put out over the radio. A short time later, an officer located a man fitting the description in an area between White Bluff Rd and Abercorn Street. Officers chased Smith through an apartment complex and commercial business area, ending in the parking lot of Home Source Rentals located at 9133 White Bluff Road. While running, Smith pointed his weapon at the officer, and the officer fired, hitting Smith in the leg. Medical aid was rendered on scene and Smith was taken to Memorial Health where he is listed in stable condition. Agents recovered a weapon from the scene.
The GBI is investigating the death of a Richmond Hill man. The Richmond Hill Police Department asked to the GBI to assist on Sunday, February 21, 2022, at around 3:00 p.m. The GBI has charged Eric Montrell Wright, age 36, with murder.
East Dublin, GA (February 19, 2022) - The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in East Dublin, Laurens County, Georgia. The East Dublin Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Friday, February 18, 2022. No officers were injured.
(February 16,2022) The individuals involved in this OIS with Columbus PD are: Jakori Thomas, age 17, Elijah Smith, age 17, and a 16 year old male.
Columbus, GA (February 8, 2022) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Columbus, Georgia. The Columbus Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Monday, February 7, 2022. No officers were injured in this incident.
(February 16, 2022) – The man involved in this officer involved shooting is identified as Joel Eugene Keller, 36, of Toccoa, GA. The GBI has taken an arrest warrant for Keller for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Additional charges are anticipated. Keller is currently in stable condition.
Stephens County, GA (February 15, 2022) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Stephens County, GA. The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. One man was shot and injured. No deputies were injured.
The early investigation indicates that at 1:17 p.m., a Stephens County deputy attempted a traffic stop on Yearwood Rd. in Toccoa, Stephens County, GA on a man driving a Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado refused to stop and a pursuit followed. The driver of the truck ultimately wrecked at Broad River Road in Toccoa and got out of the truck and approached the deputy. There was a struggle between the driver and deputy and during this struggle, the deputy’s gun was unholstered. The deputy and the driver fought over the gun during which the deputy fired one shot, striking the driver.
