Echols County Man Arrested for Child Molestation and Sexual Exploitation of Children

Statenville, GA (July 26, 2022) –  On Monday, July 18, 2022, Dale Carmack, age 69, of Echols County, was arrested and charged with seven counts of Child Molestation and seven counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children. The GBI was requested to begin an investigation into a possible child molestation on June 21, 2022, by the Echols County Sheriff’s Office. Echols County investigators and GBI agents began the investigation, conducted interviews, and processed evidence which led to a search warrant on Carmack’s home and his subsequent arrest. During the execution of the search warrant, additional evidence was obtained that assisted investigators further in the case. The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the analysis of electronic evidence seized in the case.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Fayette County

Peachtree City, GA (July 24, 2022) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Peachtree City, Fayette County, GA. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Sunday, July 24, 2022.  Antonio Murgado, age 19, of Griffin, GA, and a United States Marshals Task Force Officer were shot during this incident.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Gwinnett County

Gwinnett County, GA (7/22/2022) –  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer involved shooting in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The Gwinnett County Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on July 22, 2022. One man has died. No officers were injured.

Preliminary information indicates that around 1:20 a.m., a 911 call was placed from 3020 Templeton Lane, Loganville, Gwinnett County, Georgia, about a disagreement between roommates.  The 911 caller stated that his roommate, Leonard Hollingsworth, 63, of Loganville, had fired a gun and was preventing him from leaving the home. When officers responded, Hollingsworth had a firearm in his hand and ran back into the home.  The roommate was able to leave the home.  SWAT officers were called to the home and began negotiating with Hollingsworth for several hours.  At one point, Hollingsworth pointed a firearm at officers.  Two officers fired their guns, hitting Hollingsworth.  Hollingsworth died on scene.  The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy.  

Cherokee County Man Charged with the Sexual Exploitation of Children

Canton, GA (July 18, 2022) – On Friday, July 15, 2022, Joseph Ruben William Wade Thomas, age 29, of Cherokee County, was charged with one count of Sexual Exploitation of Children, two counts of Aggravated Child Molestation, and two counts of Sodomy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit. The GBI CEACC Unit began an investigation into Thomas’ online activity after receiving a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the online sexual exploiting children via the internet and allegations of hands-on sexual abuse against children. This investigation led to a search warrant of Thomas’ home and his subsequent criminal charges. The GBI CEACC unit was aided in this investigation by the Canton Police Department and the Cobb County Police Department.  ​​​​​​​

Man Arrested in Newton County for the Sexual Exploitation of Children

Covington, GA (July 18, 2022) – On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit, with the assistance of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, executed a residential search warrant pertaining to an ongoing Sexual Exploitation of Children investigation. The investigation began after the GBI CEACC Unit received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The cybertip involved the possession and/or distribution of explicit child sexual abuse material, commonly referred to as child pornography, which resolved to Newton County, GA.

GBI Investigates Shooting in Baldwin, GA

Baldwin, GA (July 18, 2022) –  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting in Baldwin, GA. The Baldwin Police Department requested the GBI to assist with a shooting investigation on Sunday, July 17, 2022. One man was shot and died. 

Arrest Made in Schley County Homicide Investigation

Buena Vista, GA (July 18, 2022) – The GBI has arrested Jamie Leon Harris, age 37, of Buena Vista, GA, and will charge him with three counts of felony murder, three counts of aggravated assault, and one count of feticide. The arrest is in connection to the deaths of three people found deceased inside a home in the early morning hours of July 18. The Schley County Sheriff’s Office requested GBI assist with the death investigation on Monday, July 18, 2022, at 1:30 a.m.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Hall County

Gainesville, GA (July 16, 2022) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Gainesville, GA. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on July 16, 2022. After a Hall County SWAT response, one man was shot and has non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured in this incident.

Multiple Search Warrants Lead to Arrests for the Sexual Exploitation of Children in Coweta and Clayton Counties

Decatur, GA (July 15, 2022) – On July 6-7, 2022, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit executed eight search warrants regarding individuals linked to the online sexual exploitation of children.

Banks County Man Charged with the Sexual Exploitation of Children

Lula, GA (July 15, 2022) – On Thursday, July 14, 2022, Todd Glassburn, age 33, of Banks County, GA, was arrested for three counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children (Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material) and two counts Sexual Exploitation of Children (Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material) by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit. The GBI CEACC Unit began an investigation into Glassburn’s online activity after receiving a Cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the online possession and distribution of images depicting child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The investigation led to a search warrant at Glassburn’s residence in Banks County and his subsequent arrest. The GBI was assisted in this case by the Banks County Sheriff’s Office.
