Clayton County, GA (June 16, 2026) - At the request of the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Clayton County, GA. No officers were injured in the incident.

Preliminary information indicates that, at about 11:18 p.m. on June 15, 2026, Clayton County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted a traffic stop on a stolen car at the intersection of Jonesboro Road and Conley Road in Forest Park, GA. As deputies attempted to block in the stolen car, the driver reversed into the front of a marked patrol car. One of the deputies then gave verbal commands for the driver to stop. The driver accelerated forward, and the deputy shot toward the car multiple times. The driver then fled the scene in the car, which was later discovered abandoned on Southampton Road. Evidence located inside the car indicates that the driver was injured at some point.

The driver has not been identified at this time.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be turned over to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
