GBI Investigating Shooting in Thomson

McDuffie County, GA (April 26, 2023) – The GBI is conducting an aggravated assault investigation in Thomson, GA.  On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 3:24 p.m., the Thomson Police Department responded to the parking lot of KJ’s Market IGA on West Hill Street in reference to a shooting incident. Officers learned that two men had been arguing in the parking lot when both men began shooting at each other. One man was shot during the altercation, drove himself to Piedmont-McDuffie Hospital and was eventually taken to an Augusta hospital for further treatment.  Police are searching for the second man.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA (April 24, 2023) –  The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Atlanta, GA. The Atlanta Police Department (APD) asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on April 23, 2023. One man was shot and is in stable condition. No officers were injured during the incident.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Douglas County

Lithia Springs, GA (April 24, 2023) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Douglas County, GA. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on April 23, 2023. One man was shot and killed. No deputies were injured during the incident.

GBI Expands Gang Task Force to Middle Georgia

Macon, Georgia (April 21, 2023) - Thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the GBI and Macon-Bibb County, our Gang Task Force is expanding to Middle Georgia. Agents and task force officers will work out of a new home in downtown Macon. This MOU and new location will allow the GTF to more effectively focus on stopping gang violence in the area and give local agencies access to the GBI’s resources.

Milledgeville, Georgia (September 3, 2020) – On Thursday, September 3, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced the expansion of the Statewide Gang Task Force to the Middle Georgia region of the state.   This announcement comes just over one year after the Task Force was created.  Governor Brian Kemp continues to make dismantling criminal street gangs a priority, and under the leadership of GBI Director Vic Reynolds, this next step falls right in line with that mission.

The Gang Task Force is pleased to partner with several local agencies in Middle Georgia including the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office (Sheriff Bill Massee), the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office (Sheriff David Davis), Milledgeville Police Department (Chief Dray Swicord), Eatonton Police Department (Chief Kent Lawrence), District Attorney Steve Bradley, the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force (Commander Wesley Nunn), and a host of other agencies. 

Franklin County Man Arrested for the Sexual Exploitation of Children

Lavonia, GA (April 21, 2023) – On Thursday, April 20, 2023, Jimmy Dickerson, Jr., of Franklin County, GA, was arrested and charged with one count of sexual exploitation of children by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit. The GBI CEACC Unit began an investigation into Dickerson’s online activity after receiving a cybertipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the possible online possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). This investigation led to a search warrant of Dickerson’s home and his arrest. The GBI CEACC unit was aided in the execution of this search warrant by the Lavonia Police Department and the Georgia Department of Community Supervision. Dickerson was taken to the Franklin County Jail.

Griffin, GA (April 20, 2023) – The Spalding County District Attorney’s Office has indicted 34 men and women in “Operation Krack the Ice.” This operation is a multi-agency investigation involving gangs, drugs, and organized crime, plaguing communities across the State of Georgia, including but not limited to Spalding, Butts, Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Rockdale, Newton, Troup, and Tattnall Counties.

Peach County Woman Wanted for Identity Theft and Theft by Taking

Macon, GA (April 19, 2023) – The GBI arrested Priscilla Parker in Macon today on outstanding warrants out of Crawford County. She is charged with four counts of theft by taking, three counts of identity theft, and two counts financial card transaction fraud. Parker was also wanted for an outstanding probation violation warrant out of Houston County. She is currently being detained at the Bibb County Jail and will subsequently be taken to the Crawford County Jail.

Crawford County, GA (April 4, 2023) - Priscilla Parker, age 44, of Fort Valley, Peach County, GA, is wanted for three counts of identity theft and four counts of theft by taking. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI investigate suspected theft involving an elderly victim in Crawford County in December 2022. Parker is known to frequent the Crawford, Peach, and Houston County areas.

Long-time Medical Examiner Returns to GBI to Serve in Macon

April 17, 2023  Dr. Anthony Clark is back at the GBI to practice pathology at the GBI Medical Examiners Office in Macon.  July 1, 2023 will mark 31 years he has been a medical examiner.  Dr. Clark enjoys solving puzzles and has always had an inquisitive mind. He started watching the old tv show “Quincy” at a young age and was fascinated by the whole idea of being a doctor who investigates deaths along with law enforcement.  After ending his most recent assignment in Florida, he was not ready to retire or willing to leave Georgia.  When he saw an opening in Macon, he could not resist applying.  Dr. Clark originally left the GBI in July 2007 and has had a great working relationship with the GBI Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Geoffrey Smith.

GBI Makes Arrest in Dawson Homicide Investigation

Dawson, GA (April 17, 2023) – De’travion Simmons, age 22, of Dawson, has been arrested and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. His arrest is in connection to the shooting death of Austin Johnson, age 25, on Sunday, April 16, 2022. Simmons is currently being held at the Terrell County Jail.
