GBI Conducts Death Investigation in Hahira - UPDATE

UPDATE:

April 5, 2022 - Davisha Johnson was arrested on outstanding warrants on the afternoon of April 4, 2022. Johnson asked someone she knew to call 911 so she could turn herself in. Valdosta Police Department officers and Lowndes County Sherriff’s Office deputies took her into custody without incident on Valloton Drive in Valdosta. She was taken to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and later booked into the Lowndes County Jail on the warrants. 

The victim in this case is identified as Daron “Ron” Roberto Williams, age 51, of Hahira. Williams and Johnson had known each other for several years. This case is active and ongoing. When complete, the case file will be provided to District Attorney Brad Shealy’s office for prosecution. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the GBI Thomasville Field Office at 229-225-4090 or Hahira Police Department at 229-794-2440.

April 3, 2022 - Police need your help locating Davisha Latrice Johnson, age 32. Johnson is wanted for Felony Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. On Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 9:10 p.m., Hahira Police requested GBI assistance with the death of a man at the Hahira Inn on Highway 122 off of I-75. Hahira PD and Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of shots fired in a guest room. The man will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy. His name is being withheld at this time pending notification of additional next of kin.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Savannah, GA

Savannah, GA (April 3, 2022) –  The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Savannah, GA. The Savannah Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on April 2, 2022. One man has died. No officers were injured.

Preliminary information indicates that at 7:27 p.m., a 911 call was placed about a man chasing people with a knife near Bordeaux Lane, Savannah Georgia. When officers responded, they encountered the man, later identified as James Allen Miller, 31, of Savannah, walking on Bordeaux Lane. Officers provided verbal commands and attempted to speak with Miller who would not comply with the officers’ commands.  Miller ran towards one of the officers. One officer fired a gun, hitting Miller. Officers and EMT’s administered first aid and Miller was taken to a local hospital in Savannah where he was pronounced dead.

Bulloch County Man Arrested for Sexual Exploitation of Children

Register, GA (April 2, 2022) – On Thursday, March 31, 2022, the GBI arrested Conner Aaron Ryles, age 19, of Register, GA. Ryles is charged with one count of Sexual Exploitation of Children (Possession of Child Pornography). The GBI began investigating Ryles’ online activity after receiving multiple Cybertips from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the online possession or distribution of images depicting child pornography. This investigation led to a search warrant at Ryles’ residence in Bulloch County and multiple digital devices were seized. Ryles was booked into the Bulloch County Jail. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

Man Arrested for Multiple Sex Crimes Against a Child

Watkinsville, GA (March 31, 2022) – On March 27, 2022, GBI and Eastern Connecticut State University Campus Police arrested Victor Jimenez Pastor, age 22, while on campus. Pastor is charged with Aggravated Child Molestation, Computer Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention Act, Obscene Internet Contact with a Child, Electronically Furnishing Obscene Material to Minors, and Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA (March 31, 2022) - The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting on the campus of Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta. The Atlanta Public Schools Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. One woman was shot during the incident. No students, staff, or officers were injured.  

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Evans County

Evans County, GA (March 30, 2022) - Eason was released from the hospital and charged with 3 counts of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:

Evans County, GA (February 24, 2022) –  The GBI is investigating a shooting incident that led to an officer involved shooting in Evans County, Georgia. The Evans County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at around 8:00 p.m.  Four people were shot.  No officers were injured in this incident. 

The preliminary information indicates that at around 7:30 p.m., Bulloch County 911 received a call about a shooting at 43 Ruffins Rd, Claxton, Georgia. When Evans County deputies arrived, they discovered one man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Additional officers arrived on scene and began to look for the shooter.

GBI Makes Arrest in Sexual Assault Investigation

Douglasville, GA (March 29, 2022) – The GBI has arrested and charged Austin Cole Sluder, 27, of Douglasville, GA, with Violation of Oath of Office by a Public Officer and Improper Sexual Contact. On October 27, 2021, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate allegations of sexual assault by Sluder.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Banks County

UPDATE:

Commerce, GA (March 28, 2022) - The man involved in this OIS is identified as Felix Catarino, age 52, of Commerce.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:

Commerce, GA (March 24, 2022) –  The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Commerce, Banks County, Georgia. The Banks County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on March 23, 2022. One man was shot and killed in the incident. No deputies were injured in this incident.

The preliminary information indicates that a deputy of the Banks County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service about a man refusing to pay a taxi fare to a local taxi driver.  The deputy arrived at a home at 151 Hebron Court, Commerce, Georgia where he had contact with the taxi driver and with the taxi’s passenger whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin. When the deputy gave the man commands in order to take the man into custody, the man grabbed a metal pipe and advanced towards the deputy, continuing to ignore the deputy’s commands. The deputy fired his gun, hitting the man. EMS provided medical aid, and the man was pronounced dead on the scene. The body of the deceased man will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Piedmont Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
