GBI Makes Arrests in Dahlonega Woman’s Death

Dahlonega, GA (April 9, 2021) – On Wednesday, April 7, 2021, the GBI and Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jeffrey Wayne Burns, 46, of Dahlonega, GA, and charged him with  Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Homicide by Vehicle. The arrest was in connection to the death of Cheynne Jean Burns, 24, also of Dahlonega. Burns was booked into the Lumpkin County Detention Center.

Skeletal Remains Located in Fairburn, Georgia

On Tuesday, April 06, 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the CSX Railroad Police Department to investigate skeletal remains found on CSX - Fairburn Ramp property, located at 6700 McLarin Road in Fairburn.  The remains were located in a wooded area and were found by personnel associated with CSX.  GBI agents collected the remains and turned them over to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.  No identity of the deceased or cause of death has been made at this time.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in DeKalb County

DeKalb County, GA (March 31, 2021) – On Wednesday, March 31, 2021, the GBI was requested by the DeKalb County Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting. 

The preliminary investigation indicates that Dekalb County Police Officers responded to a person shot call at approximately 4:15 AM.  Officers encountered a damaged car in the roadway with no headlights.  Officers drove towards the car and the driver drove away from the scene.  After a short chase, Willie Roy Allen, age 57, of Lithonia, GA got out of the car.  The car continued to roll and eventually hit a parked car. 

Colquitt County Man Arrested for the Sexual Exploitation of Children

Moultrie, GA (March 31, 2021) – On Monday, March 29, 2021, Colquitt County resident, Mackenzie Rogers, age 31, was charged with one count of Sexual Exploitation of Children (Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material) by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit. The GBI CEACC Unit began an investigation into Rogers’ online activity after receiving a Cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the possession of suspected child pornography by Rogers via the internet. This investigation led to a search warrant at Rogers’ home in Moultrie, GA, and the arrest of Rogers on March 29, 2021. The GBI CEACC Unit was assisted in the execution of their search warrant by the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI Thomasville Regional Field Office.

GBI Seeks Public's Help in Gainesville Death Investigation

On Tuesday morning, March 30, 2021, Lilian (MaryJane) Andrade, age 26, of Gainesville, was found dead in the 600 block area of Tate Street in Gainesville, Georgia.

We are seeking the public’s help for any information about Andrade’s whereabouts on the evening of Monday, March 29, 2021 and any information about her death.

GBI Arrests Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detention Officers for Sexual Assault of an Inmate

Milledgeville, Georgia- March 29, 2021 – On Friday, March 26, 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested Christopher Dumas, Jr, age 20, and Mario Ward, age 37, both from Milledgeville, Georgia, for sexual assault against a person who was incarcerated at the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.  Dumas, Jr. and Ward turned themselves in to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.   

On Wednesday, March 17, 2021, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the GBI regarding allegations that an inmate, who was incarcerated at the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, was sexually assaulted by two Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detention Officers. 

GBI Attains CALEA Accreditation for the Eighth Consecutive Time

Decatur, GA (March 29, 2021) – GBI Director Vic Reynolds is proud to announce that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has successfully attained accreditation for the eighth time from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the Gold Standard in Public Safety. GBI was initially accredited on November 21, 1998, with reassessments now occurring every four years. Only approximately four percent of over 18,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide can claim the recognition of being a CALEA accredited law enforcement agency.

GBI Arrests Dougherty County Probate Judge

Albany, GA (March 26, 2021) – On Thursday, March 25, 2021, the GBI charged Dougherty County Probate Judge Leisa Blount, age 56, with one count of Terroristic Threats and one count of Violation of Oath by Public Officer.

On March 15, 2021, the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Sylvester, GA was requested by Dougherty County Sheriff Kevin Sproul in reference to allegations that Blount threatened a Dougherty County employee.  In the presence of witnesses, Blount made a verbal threat of violence.
