GBI Arrests Former Walker County Sheriff’s Office Deputy for Rape and Incest

Summerville, GA (January 29, 2021) - On Thursday, January 28, 2021, the GBI arrested Zachary Williams, 39, of Chattooga County, for Rape and Incest. On September 8, 2020, the Walker County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI investigate allegations of rape and incest by Williams. At the time, Williams was employed as a deputy for the Walker County Sheriff’s Office and was placed on administrative leave. Williams was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

GBI and Thomson Police Investigate Shooting on Springfield Street

Thomson, GA (January 29, 2021) – On Friday, January 29, 2021, at approximately 5:50 a.m., the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Thomson Police Department to assist with a shooting incident that occurred at the Brickyard Village Apartments at 125 Springfield Street, in Thomson, Georgia.  

GBI Arrests Former Dublin Police Officer

Dublin, GA (January 28, 2021) - On Thursday, January 28, 2021, former Dublin Police Department Officer Shuronica Walker, age 37, of East Dublin, Georgia, was arrested on one count of Items Prohibited for Possession of Inmates (O.C.G.A. 42-5-18) and one count of Violation of Oath of Office (O.C.G.A. 16-10-1). Walker was subsequently booked into the Laurens County Jail.

On January 22, 2021, the GBI initiated an investigation at the request of the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Office of Professional Standards pursuant to a Dublin police officer allegedly supplying a state inmate with money via non-approved methods in violation of Georgia law. The investigation revealed Walker provided a state inmate with funds via Cash App and assisted with the procurement of contraband for the inmate. Walker was terminated from the Dublin Police Department. The GDC is securing warrants on inmate Reginald Cooper, age 46, with two counts of Items Prohibited for Possession of Inmates (O.C.G.A. 42-5-18) and one count of  Tampering with Evidence (O.C.G.A. 16-10-94). Cooper is an inmate at the Wheeler Correctional Facility in Alamo, Wheeler County, Georgia.

Death Investigation in Pulaski County

Hawkinsville, GA (January 26, 2021) – On Monday, January 25, 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a death investigation. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that a BOLO (be on the lookout) was issued for John Marion Dykes, Jr., age 42 of Leesburg, and his vehicle.  Dykes was wanted for one count of child molestation. 

Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office Major Arrested for Theft

Twiggs County, GA (January 26, 2021) – On Tuesday, January 26, 2021, the GBI arrested William “Chip” Samuel Stokes, 51, of Laurens County, and charged him with Theft by Taking and Violation of Oath of Office. Stokes was a Major with the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office until he was terminated on Monday, January 25, 2021.

Arrest Made in Americus Homicide Investigation

Americus, GA (January 26, 2021) – On Monday, January 25, 2021, the GBI arrested Jaron Sharod Griffin, 22, and charged him with one count of Felony Murder and one count of Aggravated Assault, for the shooting death of David Joshua Mitchell.

New Jersey Man Charged with Sexual Exploitation of Children in Georgia

Decatur, GA (January 25, 2021) – On Tuesday, January 5, 2021, Eric E. Talley, age 34, was arrested in Union County, New Jersey, on arrest warrants taken in Georgia for the sexual exploitation of children. Talley was located in New Jersey while he was exploiting a child from Georgia online. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Computer (CEACC) Unit began an investigation into Talley’s online activity after a report was made to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation pertaining to an online user who was paying the juvenile for nude images. During a collaborative investigation by GBI, FBI, and Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was identified as Eric E. Talley of New Jersey. Talley had a previous criminal history for possessing and viewing child pornography in New Jersey (2016) and minor/criminal solicitation of a minor in South Carolina (2012). Talley was a registered sex offender in New Jersey at the time of the investigation.

GBI Investigates Wayne County Homicide

Jesup, GA (January 22, 2021) – On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, Jerry Lee Davis was murdered at his residence, 2695 Oglethorpe Road, Wayne County, Georgia. Davis was shot multiple times which resulted in his death. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident and are seeking information pertaining to the incident. GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Warner Robins - UPDATE

UPDATE:

Warner Robins, GA (January 22, 2021) – On Friday, January 22, 2021, the GBI charged Derik Edward Jones with three counts of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, Theft by Receiving, Possession of a Firearm While on First Offender Probation, Criminal Trespassing, and Entering an Automobile. Jones will be transported to the Houston County Jail after his release from the Navicent Health Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries and is in stable condition. 

Of the three officers involved, two are with the Warner Robins Police Department and one was an off-duty Crawford County Sheriff’s Office deputy, who was shopping at the Walmart.

Clayton County Man Arrested for Sexually Exploiting Children Online

Jonesboro, GA (January 19, 2021) – On Friday, January 15, 2021, Clayton County resident, Jeremiah Anderson, age 17, was charged with six counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children (Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material) in violation of O.C.G.A 16-12-100(b)(8) and five counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children (Distribution of Child Pornography) in violation of O.C.G.A 16-12-100(b)(5) by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit. In December 2020, a report was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) pertaining to an online user who was sharing child sexual exploitation material online, which depicted the sexual abuse of toddler aged children. The GBI CEACC Unit initiated an investigation into this online user, which led to the identification of Anderson. A search warrant was executed by the GBI and the Clayton County Fugitive Squad on January 15, 2021, at Anderson’s home and subsequently led to the arrest of Anderson.
