UPDATE: On Friday, May 21, 2021, the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Ta’Lawrence Terraine Vickers aka “Saga,” age 35 of Atlanta, in Augusta, Georgia. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation previously secured arrest warrants for Vickers relating to the murder of Zacheriah Douglas Wright. Vickers was charged with malice murder, felony murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, commission of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and participation in criminal gang activity.
Montgomery County, GA (May 21, 2021) – On Wednesday, May 19, 2021, the GBI secured arrest warrants for Willie James Rogers, 35, of Jacksonville, FL. Rogers is charged with malice murder, felony murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, relating to the murder of Zacheriah Douglas Wright, 20, of Toombs County. Wright was found on Monday, May 17 on RT Lane in rural Montgomery County. He was transported to Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia, GA, where he died a short time later.
Covington, GA (May 21, 2021) – On Thursday, May 20, 2021, Newton County resident, Jeremy Mimbs, age 40, was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit and charged with four counts of the Sexual Exploitation of Children, including the possession and distribution of child pornography.
May 19th Update - The deceased man has been identified as Tyrone Penny, 21, of Lithonia, GA.
(Decatur, GA – May 18, 2021) - On Tuesday, May 18, 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Chamblee Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting that occurred near West Howard Avenue and North McDonough Street in Decatur, GA.
Preliminary information indicates that on Monday, May 17, 2021, at approximately 11:07 p.m., a 911 caller that resided in Chamblee contacted Chamblee PD about a friend being kidnapped by an unknown man. Chamblee police officers were able to obtain a description of the man’s car and the clothing of the male victim from the 911 caller. Officers were informed that the man was armed with a handgun. Officers located the car in Chamblee and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the car. The car sped away from the officers, and the officers pursued the vehicle into Decatur. The officers were finally able to stop the car. The man got out of the car and ran down an embankment and onto the railroad tracks near West Howard Avenue, Decatur, GA. During the foot pursuit, officers attempted to tase the man but it was ineffective. The officers met the man on the railroad tracks. During the encounter, officers fired their guns, striking the man. The man was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
Savannah, GA (May 17, 2021) – On Saturday, May 15, 2021, at approximately 9:23 p.m., the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Savannah Police Department to assist with a child abuse investigation.
The preliminary investigation reveals that while off duty, Savannah PD SVU Detective Vincent Miller, age 32, of Savannah, GA, was at a neighbor’s house when he was caught on camera physically abusing a two year old child. Miller punctured the child with an unknown object.
Miller was arrested and charged with one count of first degree Cruelty to Children.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, it will be submitted to the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
Update - May 14, 2021
Adel, GA (May 14, 2021) - On Monday, May 10, 2021, the Cook County grand jury issued an indictment against Dashay Antwan March, 28, Ra-Shay Marquez March, 23 and Taurian Javon Wertz, 23, for the murder of Emmanuel Whitehead, 18, of Tifton and aggravated assault on Deshone Pierce, 19.
A Superior Court Judge issued special presentment bench warrants for all three subjects for the following charges: Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and multiple Felony Street Gang charges. All three subjects were already in custody on previous charges.
Adel, GA (April 14, 2019) – On Sunday, April 14, 2019, the GBI was requested by the Adel Police Department to assist with an investigation into a shooting with multiple victims.
Savannah, GA (May 14, 2021) – On Thursday, May 13, 2021, at approximately 8:10 p.m., the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Glennville, GA (May 14, 2021) – On Friday, May 14, 2021, the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Quandaris Deonte Ford, 18, in Hinesville, GA. Ford has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During a Crime, and Violation of Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. Ford will be booked into the Tattnall County Jail.
Columbus, GA (May 13, 2021) – On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, Roger Frederick Tackett, age 29, of Columbus, GA, was charged with five counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children (Distribution of Child Pornography) by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit. The GBI CEACC Unit began an investigation into Tackett’s online activity after receiving several Cybertips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the online possession and distribution of images depicting child pornography.
Cairo, GA (May 12, 2021) – The GBI is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a 1983 homicide victim. On July 15, 1983, at approximately 7:15 a.m., the body of an unidentified white man was located approximately 10 miles south of Cairo, GA on Highway 93 South. The man was 5’11” tall, weighed 160 lbs., had curly greyish/brown hair, and a brown mustache. He was believed to be between 40 and 45 years old and had a full upper denture. He was wearing a white V-neck style T-shirt, blue shorts with red trim, and basketweave slip-on shoes. The man was also wearing a gold wristwatch and smoked Camel cigarettes. The man’s death was ruled a homicide.
Douglas, GA (May 11, 2021) – On Sunday, May 9, 2021, the GBI’s Douglas Regional Office received a request from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a death investigation.
