Long County, GA (January 07, 2021) – On Thursday, January 7, 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Long County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the kidnapping of a 7 month old infant, along with the aggravated assault of the child’s mother. A Levi’s Call, Georgia’s Amber Alert, was issued to locate the child and Leander Nathaniel Harris, age 23, of Glennville, GA. The GBI recovered the child safely and uninjured in Statesboro, GA, with the help of the Long County Sheriff’s Office, Statesboro Police Department, the Bulloch County Sherriff’s Office, the Evans County Sheriff's Office, and the Tattnall County Sheriff's Office.
Colquitt County, GA (January 6, 2021) - On Wednesday, January 6, 2021, Amber Richter, 25, was arrested and charged with providing prohibited items to an inmate and violation of oath of office. Richter was booked into the Colquitt County Jail.
Griffin, GA, (January 5, 2021) – On Tuesday, January 5, 2021, the GBI arrested Gregory Ryan Edge, 41, of Williamson, GA, for six counts of felony theft by deception.
On March 19, 2020, the GBI Region 2 Field Office was requested by the Griffin Police Department to assist in investigating suspicious activity reported on loans at The Southern Credit Union in Griffin, Spalding County, Georgia. Initial investigation identified former credit union employee, Gregory Ryan Edge, as a subject with alleged involvement of theft of approximately five customers’ funds during various loan activities.
Hartwell, GA (January 4, 2021) – The GBI has arrested Nicholas Leard, 38, of Lavonia, Georgia on five counts of felony theft by taking.
UPDATE: (December 30, 2020) - An autopsy performed on Marquavious Parks by the GBI Medical Examiner's Office on December 29 revealed that he drowned, with gunshot wounds contributing to his death. Parks was shot by a Georgia Department of Corrections officer on December 28, 2020.
Washington County, GA (December 28, 2020) – On Monday, December 28, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Department of Corrections to investigate an officer involved shooting that occurred on the perimeter of the Washington State Prison in Davisboro, GA
Preliminary information indicates that on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at approximately 10:39 PM, two men were in Washington County for a contraband drop at the Washington State Prison in Davisboro, GA.
Unadilla, GA (December 30, 2020) – On Wednesday, December 30, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested Unadilla Downtown Development Authority Chairman Bobby West, 59, of Unadilla, for Theft by Taking and Theft by Conversion. West was booked into the Dooly County Jail.
Newton, GA (December 29, 2020) – On Tuesday, December 29, 2020, Arlington Police Chief Cora Baker, age 39, was arrested and charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault following a Baker County Grand Jury indictment on December 3, 2020. She was booked into the Calhoun County Jail.
Fulton County, GA (December 29, 2020) – On Tuesday, December 29, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) to initiate an officer involved shooting investigation.
Preliminary information indicates that earlier the same day at approximately 6:40 a.m., members of the USMS Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force attempted to serve an arrest warrant for a male subject wanted out of Douglas County, Nebraska for 1st Degree Felony Murder and Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony. Officers knocked on the front door and announced their presence at the residence. As an occupant of the residence opened the door, a male subject discharged a firearm towards officers. Two officers (one with the USMS and one with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office) returned fire, striking the male subject. The male subject was pronounced dead on scene.
Douglasville, GA (December 28, 2020) – On Monday, December 28, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Douglasville Police Department (DPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Adel, GA (December 21, 2020) – On Saturday, December 19, 2020, the GBI and Adel PD arrested Lebray Berrian, 32, of Adel. Berrian was arrested and charged with one count of Felony Murder, one count of Aggravated Assault, one count of Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon, and one count of Possession of Firearm during the Commission of a Crime, in connection to the death of Tenesha Mordon, 41, of Valdosta. Berrian was booked into the Cook County Jail.
