GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Clayton County

Clayton County, GA (June 11, 2020) – On Wednesday, June 10, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Clayton County Police Department (CCPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting. 

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 8:07 p.m., a hijacking of a motor vehicle (carjacking) was reported to have occurred at 5758 Old Dixie Highway in Forest Park.  The vehicle was stolen at gunpoint by several males.  CCPD responded and began searching for the car. 

Clayton County Man Arrested for the Sexual Exploitation of Children

Rex, GA (June 10, 2020) – On Monday, June 8, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit, with the assistance of the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Squad executed a search warrant at the residence of Joseph Leonard Adams, age 32, of Rex, GA. As a result of the search warrant, Adams was arrested and charged with the four counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children.

Businesses Raided for Gambling Violations

Valdosta, GA (June 10, 2020) – On Wednesday, June 10, 2020, the GBI’s Commercial Gambling Unit, along with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Thomas County Sheriff’s Office, Valdosta Police Department, federal partners FBI, IRS, USDA, and in cooperation with the Georgia Lottery Corporation, executed 20 search warrants in Valdosta and Boston for violations of gambling laws and EBT fraud.

Child Sexual Exploitation Investigation Leads to Arrest in Columbia County

Appling, GA (June 8, 2020) – On Friday, June 5, 2020, agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit, assisted by the Thomson Regional Office of the GBI, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, executed multiple search warrants in Columbia and Richmond counties including one at the home of Mark Christopher Greene, 44, in Appling, Columbia County, GA.

Preliminary Analysis of Fulton County Arrests

Fulton County, GA (June 4, 2020) – The Georgia Information and Analysis Sharing Center (GISAC) has conducted a preliminary analysis of arrests related to protest events in Atlanta from May 29th – June 1st.   

Preliminary analysis has revealed the following:

Residency: Of the more than 370 arrests examined in Atlanta/Fulton County, 57 subjects were from out-of-state, five subjects were homeless, and the majority (294) were Georgia residents. Some subjects are still being affirmatively identified and may haveprovided false information upon arrest.

Criminal History: While most subjects did not have any prior criminal history, there were multiple (more than 30) instances where an arrested subject had a significant criminal history including charges that could be consistent with prior involvement in violent civil unrest.

GBI Makes Arrest in Camilla Homicide

Camilla, GA (June 3, 2020) - On Wednesday, June 3, 2020, Antwan Dominic Shivers, related to the death of Rondarius Williams, was charged with one count of Malice Murder, four counts of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Crime. He remains in the Mitchell County Jail.

 

ORIGINAL RELEASE

Camilla, GA (June 3, 2020) – On Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at approximately 3:55 p.m., the Camilla Police Department requested the GBI assist in a homicide investigation where Rondarius Radahn Williams, 31, of Camilla, was shot at the Tyson plant in Camilla. Williams died at the Mitchell County Hospital. After fleeing the scene, Antwan Dominic Shivers, 25, of Cairo, was identified as a suspect and taken into custody by the Thomasville Police Department. Shivers is currently being held in the Mitchell County Jail and charges are pending.

GBI Investigates Skeletal Remains Found in Coffee County

Broxton, GA (June 3, 2020) – On Saturday, May 16, 2020, the GBI’s Douglas Regional Office received a request from the Broxton Police Department to assist with the recovery and identification of human skeletal remains.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Gwinnett County

June 2, 2020 update - The driver has been identified as Momodou Lamin Sisay, 39, of Lithonia.

Gwinnett County, GA (May 29, 2020) – On Friday, May 29, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Snellville Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 3:49 a.m., a Snellville PD officer attempted to stop a vehicle along Skyland Drive for a vehicle tag violation.  The vehicle did not stop, and a pursuit ensued leading to Temple Johnson Road.

GBI Makes Arrest in Lavonia Volunteer Fire Department Theft Investigation

UPDATE:

Lavonia, GA (June 1, 2020) – On Monday, June 1, 2020, the GBI arrested Shane Bentley, 41, of Lavonia, GA for four counts of felony theft by taking. The arrest was the result of an investigation concerning unauthorized purchases made with Lavonia city funds. Bentley, who served as the assistant chief of the Lavonia Volunteer Fire Department, purchased several equipment items that were not for the use of the Volunteer Fire Department. Bentley turned himself in to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office without incident.

Lavonia, GA (May 20, 2020) – On Wednesday, May 20, 2020, the Lavonia Police Department requested the Athens GBI office to investigate this matter after city officials discovered unusually high expenditures by the Lavonia Volunteer Fire Department. Those expenditures took place over the course of several months. Several of those purchases were unaccounted for and not made specifically for the fire department.
