GBI Investigates Officer Involved Use of Force Incident in Douglas County

Douglas County, GA (March 13, 2020) – On Friday, March 13, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer involved use of force incident.

Preliminary information indicates that on Thursday, March 12, 2020, a Douglas County Deputy was at the WellStar Douglas Hospital with an inmate who was being medically treated. 

GBI Arrests Former Chatham County Recorder's Court Clerk Administrative Assistant

Savannah, GA (March 11, 2020) – On Thursday, March 5, 2020, the GBI arrested former Chatham County Recorder’s Court Clerk Administrative Assistant Veronica Culver, 51, for Theft by Conversion and False Statements and Writings stemming from a GBI investigation.   

GBI Arrests Former Lafayette City Court Clerk

Lafayette, GA (March 11, 2020) – On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, former Lafayette City Court Clerk Jan Bridges was arrested for Theft of Fiduciary – Theft of over $500.00. 

On Monday, October 7, 2019, the GBI Region 1 (Calhoun) Office was contacted by the Lafayette Police Department and requested to assist with an investigation into the City Court Services’ fines and fees as well as money missing from the Police Department. 

Three Arrested Following Search Warrants in Sumter County

Americus, GA (March 11, 2020) – On Sunday, March 9, 2020, the GBI arrested Willie Lee Mathis, 46, Milo Mumford, 33, and Deandre Wilburn, 28, for Trafficking Cocaine and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.

Gang Member Arrested on Drug and Weapons Charges

March 9, 2020 (Albany, GA) – On Tuesday, March 3, 2020, the GBI West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office was requested to assist the Georgia State Patrol with a traffic stop in Coweta County, GA. Georgia State Troopers had conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle from Randolph County, GA occupied by Stephen Michael Goodbread, 28, and Shawna Hutto, 32, going southbound on Interstate 85.

Fannin County Tax Commissioner Arrested

On Thursday, March 5, 2020, Fannin County Tax Commissioner Shirley Sosebee, 63, of Blue Ridge, was arrested for Forgery in the First Degree and Violation of Oath by a Public Officer.  Sosebee was booked into the Fannin County Detention Center.  A bond of  $10,000 was set for Sosebee.

GBI Seeking Public Assistance in 2011 Toccoa Murder Investigation

Toccoa, GA (March 5, 2020) – This month marks the nine year anniversary of the murder of Robert Lee Simmons, Jr. The GBI is seeking the public’s assistance with any information about Simmons’ last days and his murder. Simmons, 46, was found dead at his home at the Glendale Apartments on Norman Drive on March 1, 2011 by a family member. The Toccoa Police Department responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call. Simmons’ death was determined to be a homicide. 

Arrest Made in Screven County Child Molestation and Public Indecency Investigation

Sylvania, GA (March 3, 2020) – On February 27, 2020, Herman Adamson, age 64, of Screven County, Georgia, was arrested by the Screven County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI for four (4) counts of Child Molestation and seven (7) counts of Public Indecency stemming from a GBI and Screven County Sheriff’s Office investigation. 

Thomaston, GA Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

Thomaston, GA (March 2, 2020) – On Thursday, February 27, 2020, agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit (CEACC), with the assistance of the Thomaston Police Department, executed a search warrant at the residence of James Warren Krivan, age 33, in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia.  The search warrant was related to an investigation pertaining to the online sexual exploitation of children. 

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Bibb County

Bibb County, GA (March 2, 2020) – On Sunday, March 1, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 1:47 AM, a Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputy was conducting a business check and speaking with an employee outside of “Late Nite Macon” bar, located at 420 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
