Washington, GA (February 19, 2021) – On February 19, 2021, at approximately 9:00 AM, former Washington-Wilkes High School Athletic Director Tony Christopher (TC) Jay turned himself in at the Wilkes County Jail following an eight-month investigation by the GBI. Jay, 33 years old, of Ellijay, Georgia was charged with Sexual Assault by Persons with Supervisory or Disciplinary Authority.
Athens, GA (February 18, 2021) – On Thursday, February 18, 2021, at approximately 10:45 a.m., the GBI was requested by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Decatur, GA (February 16, 2021) - On Monday, February 15, 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Americus, GA (February 15, 2021) - On Friday, February 12, 2021, Prelvis McKenzie, age 31 of Americus, and Kenyatta Harvey, age 30 of Americus, were charged with murder and aggravated assault (two counts). These arrests stem from the January 3, 2021 death of Sammie White at 121A Cherokee Street in Americus, GA. Harvey was taken into custody at the Americus Police Department and subsequently transported to the Sumter County Law Enforcement Center for booking. McKenzie was already incarcerated at the Sumter County Law Enforcement Center at the time of his arrest on unrelated charges. This was a joint investigation between the GBI and Americus Police Department.
Eastman, GA (February 9, 2021) - On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, Corneilous Smith, age 22 of Alamo, and Carl Ivey Jr., age 30 of Eastman, were charged with murder and aggravated assault (2 counts). The charges stem from the December 30, 2020 drive-by shooting in the Sunset Community that caused the death of Demonte J. Ivey and injuries to Alize Lampkin. Ivey, Jr. was taken into custody at the Eastman Police Department and subsequently transported to the Dodge County Law Enforcement Center for booking. Smith was already incarcerated at the time of his arrest on unrelated charges. This was a joint investigation between the GBI and Eastman Police Department.

Eastman, GA – On Wednesday, December 30, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Eastman Field Office was requested by the Eastman Police Department to assist with a shooting that occurred on Lee Avenue, Eastman, Georgia. At approximately 2:51 p.m., two people were shot in an area known as the Sunset Community. Both victims were transported by private vehicles to Dodge County Hospital for medical treatment. Demonte J. Ivey, 22, of Eastman, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The second victim, Alize Lampkin, 23, of Eastman, was treated for his injuries and is expected to recover.
Jasper, Georgia (February 9, 2021) – On Monday, February 8, 2021, at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation.
The investigation indicates that at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Pickens County 911 Center received a request for a welfare check on a man that was expressing suicidal thoughts at a residence on Dianne Street. The man was reportedly armed with a replica gun and expressed a desire to die at the hands of law enforcement. The man was identified as Chris Childers, 46, of Jasper, Georgia.
Jasper, GA (February 8, 2021) – On Thursday, February 4, 2021, Pickens County resident, Danny Wright, age 57, was charged with one count of Sexual Exploitation of Children (Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material) and three counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children (Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material) by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit. The GBI CEACC Unit began an investigation into Wright’s online activity after receiving a Cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the possession and distribution of suspected child pornography by Wright via the internet. This investigation led to a search warrant at Wright’s home in Jasper, Georgia, and the arrest of Wright on February 4, 2021. The GBI was assisted in the execution of the search warrant by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. Evidence from the search warrant conducted on February 4, 2021, led to additional criminal charges against Wright on February 5, 2021. On February 5, 2021, Wright was charged with Child Molestation and Invasion of Privacy.
Brooks County, GA (February 6, 2021) – On Wednesday, November 11, 2020, the GBI was requested by the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office to initiate an investigation into multiple thefts of monies from an elderly couple in Brooks County, Georgia. So far in the investigation, thefts totaling more than $20,000 have been documented. Agents expect that number to increase as they receive additional financial records related to the thefts from various businesses. Agents secured arrest warrants in Brooks, Thomas, and Colquitt Counties charging Jeffrey Hires, 31, with six counts of exploitation and intimidation of disabled adults, elder persons, and residents (Felony).
Madison, GA (February 6, 2021) – On Saturday, February 6, 2021, at approximately 12:25 p.m., the GBI was requested by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation on I-20 westbound at mile marker 110 in Madison, Morgan County, GA.
Ben Hill County, GA (February 4, 2021) – On Wednesday, January 26, 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation charged Ben Hill County inmate Telvin King, age 30 of Fitzgerald, GA, with Involuntary Manslaughter, Battery, and Tampering with Evidence in the death of Ben Hill County inmate Demetris Lewis, age 30, of Fitzgerald, GA. Ben Hill County inmate, Collin Smith, age 24 of Fitzgerald, GA, was also charged with Tampering with Evidence and False Statements.
