Habersham County Man Arrested for Child Sexual Exploitation

Mount Airy, GA (February 26, 2021) – On Thursday, February 25, 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit (CEACC) and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the residence of Brenton Lee Lawson, 36, in Mount Airy, Habersham County, GA. An investigation into Lawson’s internet activity by the GBI’s CEACC Unit began after a report was received from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) related to the possession of child pornography by Lawson via the internet. This investigation led to a search warrant of Lawson’s residence in Habersham County, GA, and subsequently Lawson’s arrest. As a result of the investigation, Lawson was arrested and charged with three counts of Possession of Child Pornography and one count of Possession of Methamphetamine. Lawson was booked into the Habersham County Jail.

Marietta Man Arrested for False Statements and Writings

On Thursday, February 25, 2021, Derek “Al” Sneed, age 39, was arrested in Marietta and charged with one felony count of false statements and writings.

On May 6, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office to investigate allegations that a local nonprofit agency was providing false documents for criminal defendants.  Through the investigation, it was determined that Sneed, founder of the non-profit organization Alliance of Dreams, was selling community service hour certifications in exchange for cash. 

GBI Arrests Atlanta Man for Vandalism of Georgia Department of Public Safety Building

On Thursday, February 25, 2021, Andrew Carlisle was arrested in connection with the vandalism of the Georgia Department of Public Safety Headquarters building.

On Sunday, July 5, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Georgia Department of Public Safety to investigate damage and destruction of property at their headquarters located at 959 United Avenue, SE, in Atlanta.

GBI Investigates Homicide in Lanier County - UPDATE

UPDATE: On Wednesday, February 24, 2021, the GBI arrested Lennon Roberts, Jr. aka “Bug,” age 35, of Lakeland, GA, in connection to the death of Rodney Flowers, found murdered on February 21, 2021. Roberts was charged with Felony Murder, Malice Murder, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, Tampering with Evidence, and Arson Second Degree. Roberts was booked into the Lowndes County Jail.

Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office Makes Drug Arrests in Hall County

Clermont, GA (February 25, 2021) – On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office executed a search warrant at 7058 Britt Gailey Rd, Clermont, GA as the result of a four-month investigation. ARDEO was assisted by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the White County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.

Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office Makes Drug Arrest in White County

Cleveland, GA (February 25, 2021) – On February 17, 2021, Mary Pamela Clay, 60, of Cleveland, GA was arrested following a two-month-long drug investigation. Clay was arrested and charged with Trafficking of Methamphetamine and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute. Also assisting with the investigation were the White County Sheriff’s Office, Cleveland Police Department, and Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.

12 Thomas County Jail Inmates Charged Following Fight

Thomasville, GA (February 25, 2021) – On February 15, 2021, at approximately 12:25 p.m., the GBI was requested to assist the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office with an investigation regarding a fight between multiple inmates that took place in the Thomas County Jail.

Through multiple interviews of involved inmates, jail staff, and other witnesses, charges were brought against those identified to be involved. Jail staff quickly secured the other inmates, segregated those fighting, and stopped the fight from continuing. Medical aid was rendered to those that required it with one transported to an area hospital with more severe, non-life-threatening injuries.

Floyd County Jail Inmates Charged with Criminal Street Gang Act

Rome, GA (February 24, 2021) – On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, seven Floyd County Jail inmates were charged for physically and sexually assaulting another inmate in the jail in December 2020. The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office contacted the GBI to investigate immediately after the incident was reported to them on December 18, 2020. All seven are alleged to be members of the Ghostface Gangsters criminal street gang. During the investigation, one of the inmates under investigation threatened the life of the victim resulting in additional charges

GBI and Hartwell Police Department Arrest Hartwell Woman on Murder Charges

Hartwell, GA (February 23, 2021) – On Monday, February 22, 2021, the GBI and the Hartwell Police Department arrested Brittany Traneese Stowers, age 30, of Hartwell, for the murder of Jermaine Edward Maxwell, age 39, of Hartwell.

At approximately 7:00 P.M., GBI agents were requested to investigate an incident involving a man, later identified as Maxwell, who had been discovered with a single gunshot wound and unresponsive inside a residence in the City of Hartwell. Police and emergency medical personnel arrived on scene, and Maxwell was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Former Camden County Middle School Teacher Arrested for Sexual Battery

Kingsland, GA (February 23, 2021) – On Monday, February 22, 2021, former Camden County Middle School teacher Steven Rayle, 58, of Waverly, Georgia, was arrested on four counts of Sexual Battery, O.C.G.A 16-6-22.1 (felony).  

On Tuesday, February 16, 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to assist the Kingsland Police Department after a report was filed alleging sexual misconduct by Rayle against students. These incidents occurred since school resumed in January 2021 after Christmas break and during the performance of his job at Camden Middle School.
