Michigan Woman Missing for 33 Years Identified with Genealogy Technology

Dekalb County, GA (September 6, 2022) Henry Fredrick Wise, AKA Hoss Wise, has been identified through genealogy DNA as Stacey Chahorski’s killer. Wise would have been 34 at the time of Chahorski’s murder in 1988.  Wise was a truck driver, traveling the route for Western Carolina trucking company, driving through Chattanooga to Birmingham to Nashville and was also a stunt driver. In 1999, Wise was killed in a car accident at Myrtle Beach Speedway in South Carolina and was burned to death. Wise had a criminal history in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, ranging from theft, assault, to obstruction of a police officer. Wise’s arrests predate mandatory DNA testing after felony arrest.

Dade County, GA (March 24, 2022) – A Michigan woman who had been missing for 33 years has been identified as Stacey Lyn Chahorski of Norton Shores, Michigan.  On Friday, December 16, 1988, at around 2:00 p.m., the Dade County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI responded to the scene of a body located about 5 miles from the Alabama Stateline on I-59 northbound lane in Dade County, GA.  The body was of an unidentified woman that had been killed.  

For years, GBI agents and Dade County investigators worked diligently to identify the victim.  A GBI forensic artist made clay renderings and drew composites to recreate what the victim would look like in hopes of identifying her.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Hall County

Buford, GA (September 4, 2022) –  The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Buford, Hall County, Georgia. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on September 3, 2022. One man was shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No deputies were injured in this incident.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Baldwin County

Milledgeville, GA (September 3, 2022) - The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Baldwin County, GA. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on September 3, 2022, at 12:13 a.m. One man was shot and has died. No deputies were injured during this incident.

Hall County Man Arrested for Murder After Overdose Death

On August 31, 2022, the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) and the Cleveland Police Department arrested Olaffia Hester, age 27, of Gillsville, GA. Hester is arrested for felony murder in connection to the overdose death of Katelyn Baker, age 23, of Cleveland, GA. Baker’s body was discovered in a room at the M Star Hotel Cleveland by cleaning staff on August 19, 2022. The Cleveland Police Department and the White Coroner’s Office responded to the hotel and asked for ARDEO’s assistance when the death was suspected to be an overdose.

Two Muscogee County Men Charged with the Sexual Exploitation of Children

Columbus, GA (September 2, 2022) – On Wednesday, August 31, 2022, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit executed two unrelated search warrants in Columbus, GA. Arrested at the two homes were Kevin Perry, age 38, and Christopher Hovey, age 32, both of Columbus. Perry was charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of children and Hovey was charged with six counts of sexual exploitation of children.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Clayton County

Clayton County, GA (September 2, 2022) - The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Clayton County, GA. The Clayton County Police Department (CCPD) asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on September 2, 2022. One man was shot and is in stable condition. No officers were injured during this incident.

Dade County Man Charged with the Sexual Exploitation of Children

Trenton, GA (September 1, 2022) – On Monday, August 29, 2022, Elisha Shields, age 38, of Dade County, GA, was arrested for two counts of sexual exploitation of children by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit. The GBI CEACC Unit began an investigation into Shields’ online activity after receiving a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the possible online possession of child sexual abuse material. This investigation led to a search warrant of two homes frequently occupied by Shields. Evidence collected in Dade County subsequently led to Shields’ current criminal charges. The GBI CEACC unit was aided in their search warrant executions by the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office and the Dade County Sheriff’s Office. Shields was taken into custody by the Dade County Sheriff’s Office and taken to the Dade County Jail.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Hancock County

Sparta, GA (August 31, 2022) - The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting on Shoals Road in Hancock County, Georgia.  The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at about 8:50 p.m.  One man was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.  No officers were injured.  

GBI Makes Arrest in Theft Case in Monroe, GA 

Monroe, GA (August 30, 2022) – The GBI has arrested Simoan Baker, age 33, of Monroe, Georgia. Baker is charged with one felony count of theft by conversion. Baker turned herself in to the Walton County Jail on August 20, 2022, without incident.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Moultrie

Moultrie, GA (August 29, 2022) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Moultrie, GA. The Moultrie Police Department requested the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Sunday, August 28, 2022. An officer was shot once. He was treated and has been released from the hospital.
