GBI Investigates Inmate Death in DeKalb County
UPDATE - October 8, 2026:
The GBI has charged five DeKalb County Jail inmates in connection with the death of David Addo-Wright. Jayden King, age 22, of Stockbridge, GA, Treonte Brintley, age 24, of Lithonia, GA, Amir Andrews, age 19, of Milledgeville, GA, Dajuhn Bryant, age 20, of Riverdale, GA, and Messiah Hinson, age 28, of Stone Mountain, GA, were each charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Tampering with Evidence, and Items Prohibited for Possession by Inmates.
Through the investigation, agents determined that King, Brintley, Andrews, Bryant, and Hinson attacked Addo-Wright inside one of the jail cells, resulting in his death.
All five inmates are currently detained at the DeKalb County Jail on previous unrelated charges.

DeKalb County, GA (September 24, 2026) - At the request of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, GBI agents are investigating the death of David Addo-Wright, age 24, of Covington, GA, who was an inmate in the DeKalb County Jail.
On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, DeKalb County deputies found Addo-Wright unresponsive in a cell with several wounds. Addo-Wright was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Addo-Wright’s body was taken to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy was conducted.
