GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Clayton County
Clayton County, GA (April 8, 2026) - At the request of the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Clayton County, Georgia. Deshante Phillips, age 28, of Atlanta, GA, was shot and injured during the incident. No deputies were injured.
Preliminary information indicates that, at about 9:50 p.m. on April 7, 2026, Clayton County Sheriff’s Office deputies located a car that had been reported in connection with a robbery about one hour earlier. Deputies pursued the car and eventually performed a PIT maneuver on the fleeing car. The pursuit ended when the car was disabled on Interstate 285 near Riverdale Road in Atlanta, GA. One occupant of the car, later identified as Phillips, ran away from the car. Deputies pursued Phillips and shot him. Phillips was taken to an area hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, the GBI will provide the case to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
