GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Atlanta
Atlanta, GA (February 7, 2026) - At the request of the Atlanta Police Department (APD), GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Atlanta, GA. Two officers were injured in the incident.
Preliminary information indicates on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m., Atlanta Police Department officers responded to an apartment located in the 2000 block of Cheshire Bridge Road in reference to a shots fired call. Officers had responded previously to this location in reference to the call, but were unable to locate anyone. The owner of the apartment consented to allowing the officers to check the residence for safety. Officers then located Alonte Ray, age 23, of Stone Mountain, GA inside the apartment. As officers entered a back bedroom of the residence, Ray fired several shots at the officers. The officers returned fire and then exited the apartment. APD SWAT was notified and responded to the scene. After a standoff, Ray was subsequently taken into custody without incident. Ray was taken to the hospital for evaluation. He was treated and released into the custody of APD.
One officer sustained an injury to the head. A second officer sustained an injury to the hand. Both officers were taken to Grady Hospital. The officers were treated and have since been released.
Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
