GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Atlanta
Atlanta, GA (December 25, 2025) - At the request of the Atlanta Police Department (APD), GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Atlanta, GA. Joshua Knox, age 31, of Atlanta, GA, was shot and injured. No officers were injured during the incident.
Preliminary information indicates on December 24, 2025, at about 11:50 p.m., an APD officer was working off-duty at an apartment complex located in the 3000 block of Middleton Road in Atlanta, Fulton County, GA. The officer was flagged down by several residents and told that there was possibly a person shot in the area. The officer responded to the area and encountered an armed man, later identified as Knox. The officer gave Knox several verbal commands to drop his gun. Knox refused to drop his gun. The officer then fired several shots at Knox, hitting him at least one time.
Knox was alert and conscious and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
