Bartow County, GA  (May  29, 2025) - At the request of the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into an officer involved shooting that occurred on the evening of May 28, 2025.

Preliminary information indicates that a woman, later identified as Carrie Hall, age  50, of Cartersville, reportedly arrived at a home in Bartow County and fired a gun. The homeowner, who was familiar with Hall, identified her and provided Hall’s name to responding deputies.

At about 8:40 p.m., Bartow County deputies, with assistance from an officer with the Cartersville Police Department, located the woman’s vehicle at the intersection of SR 20/Canton Hwy & Conference Center Dr, Cartersville, GA and conducted a felony traffic stop. During the encounter, Hall got out of the vehicle armed with a gun and did not comply with repeated verbal commands to drop the weapon. Deputies and officers fired their guns, hitting Hall.

Hall was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. No officers were injured.   

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Bartow County District Attorney’s Office for review.
