Roswell, GA (January 17, 2025) – At the request of the Roswell Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Roswell, Georgia. Matthew Robert Taylor, age 40, of Roswell, died in the incident. A Milton PD officer was shot in the chest and is in stable condition.

The preliminary information indicates at about 12:00 p.m., members of North Fulton SWAT were near the 500 block of Ansley Drive in Roswell, Georgia.  SWAT and Roswell detectives were attempting to execute a search warrant at a home and arrest warrants for Taylor.  Taylor had multiple warrants for his arrest to include discharge of a firearm on the property of another and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. 

As officers attempted to execute the warrants, Taylor retreated into the home and ran out the back door. Taylor fired a weapon at a SWAT officer, hitting the officer in the chest.  That officer returned fire, hitting Taylor, who was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Taylor will be taken to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
