GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Laurens County
Alamo, Laurens County, Georgia (August 16, 2024) – At the request of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Alamo, Laurens County, Georgia. One man, later identified as Curtis “CJ” Glen Purvis Jr., age 31, of McRae-Helena, GA, died in the incident. No officers were injured in this incident.
On August 15, 2024, at about 10:20 p.m., the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a domestic dispute at a home in the 2000 block of Sudie Pearl Jones Road, Alamo, Laurens County, Georgia. When the deputy arrived, they discovered that Purvis Jr. was no longer at the home. While the deputy was talking with the victim, who was an acquaintance of Purvis Jr., Purvis Jr. drove up and hit another car and the victim’s father with his car before coming to a stop. Before Purvis Jr. hit the car and the father, the deputy shot at and hit Purvis Jr.’s car. Purvis Jr. got out of his car, entered the home, and stabbed the victim. He then came out of the home with a knife and the deputy shot him. Purvis Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene.
Purvis Jr. will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed.
The stabbing victim and the father were taken to a local hospital.
