Sumter County, GA (August 8, 2024) - At the request of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Sumter County. One man was shot and killed in the incident. No officers were injured.

Preliminary information indicates 911 personnel received a call regarding a man, later identified as Jamie Lynn Still, age 45, of Americus, GA, who was barricaded in a house with a gun. According to the call, his family was inside the home and shots had been fired. Deputies responded to a home in the 1100 block of South Georgia Tech Parkway in Americus, GA, and talked with Still, but he refused to drop the rifle. Still came outside and pointed the rifle at deputies. One deputy shot at Still, hitting him. Deputies went inside and cleared the home. No one inside the home was injured. Deputies attempted life saving measures on Still, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Still will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Southwestern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
