Atlanta, GA (July 10, 2024) – At the request of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Atlanta, GA. One man, later identified as Travon Yarbrough, age 18, of Atlanta, GA, was shot and is in stable condition. No deputies were injured in this incident.

Preliminary information indicates that a deputy from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office FAST Unit observed a vehicle commit a traffic offense on Harwell Road NW. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, and Yarborough (driver) immediately drove away. As the car turned onto Delmar Lane NW, it left the roadway and crashed. Yarborough ran away from the crash. As deputies went after Yarborough, Yarborough pulled a pistol from his clothing and a deputy fired one round, hitting Yarborough. Yarborough continued running, and deputies searching the area located him in the backyard of a home on an adjacent street. A firearm was located near the shooting and where deputies took Yarborough into custody. Officers provided aid to Yarborough, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

It was later learned that the vehicle driven by Yarborough was stolen.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
