GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Clayton County
UPDATE - June 25, 2024:
The original release reported that Clayton County P.D. received a 911 call at about 6:30 p.m. This call was received at about 4:30 p.m.
The preliminary information also indicated that officers discovered four people behind the home. Additional information shows that officers discovered two people climbing out of the back window of the home while two people remained in the house.
As the investigation progresses, the GBI will continue to provide updates with any pertinent information that can be released without interfering with the investigation that is still active and ongoing.
ORIGINAL RELEASE:
Clayton County, GA (June 24, 2024) – At the request of the Clayton County Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Clayton County, Georgia. Hakim Al-Nas, age 18, died in the incident. No officers were injured in this incident.
The preliminary information indicates at about 6:30 p.m., Clayton County P.D. dispatch received a 911 call in reference to a suspicious person at an abandoned home located in the 3200 block of Chippewa Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they saw four people behind the home. As officers approached them, Al-Nas tried to run away and one of the responding officers shot him multiple times. Al-Nas was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Agents recovered a handgun from the scene.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation of the officer involved shooting. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
