GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Milton, GA
Milton, GA (June 14, 2024) – At the request of the Milton Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Milton, Georgia. One woman, identified as Shantidra Harris, 31, of Atlanta, died in the incident. One officer was injured during the incident.
The preliminary information indicates on June 14, 2024, at about 12:15 p.m., Milton P.D. received a call about a shoplifting incident that happened at Kohl’s on Highway 9. Officers responded to the area and located a person driving a red Dodge Journey, reportedly involved in the shoplifting incident. Officers attempted to stop the person driving the vehicle, but the driver continued and pulled into the parking lot of Walmart on Windward Parkway.
The Dodge came to a stop and two suspects ran from the vehicle. One woman, the driver, was taken into custody and one man fled the area. A second woman, Harris, carjacked a white Toyota Corolla and attempted to flee the location. Harris quickly accelerated the Toyota with an officer directly in front of the bumper. The officer, who was hit by the car, fired his weapon, hitting Harris.
Harris was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The officer, who sustained injuries, has been treated and released.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once the investigation is complete, it will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
