GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Clayton County

The man from this incident has been identified as William Lowery, age 49, of Conley, GA.
ORIGINAL RELEASE:
Clayton County, GA (June 11, 2024) – At the request of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Clayton County, Georgia. One man was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. No agents were injured during this incident.
The preliminary information indicates on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at about 6:00 a.m., DEA Agents and TFOs were executing a federal search warrant at a home located on the 1600 block of Bag Pipe Place in Conley, Clayton County, Georgia for drug offenses. The DEA also had federal arrest warrants for the occupant. As agents entered the home, they saw a man run into one of the rooms. He later appeared with a gun and shot at the agents. Agents returned fire and took cover inside the home. Agents continued to hear gunfire coming from the man’s last known location but did not engage. They heard a single gunshot and later located the man with a gunshot wound. Agents cleared the rest of the home and notified Clayton County Fire and EMS. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Clayton County Fire.
Once agents notify next of kin, the identity of the man involved will be released.
The body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab where an autopsy will be performed.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
