GBI Arrests Former Coweta County Sheriff’s Deputy in Assault Investigation
Newnan, Coweta County, GA (June 10, 2024) – The GBI has arrested and charged former Coweta County Deputy James Arthur Broadwater, age 31, of Newnan, Coweta County, GA, with Pointing a Pistol at Another and Violation of Oath by Public Officer. On May 7, 2024, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate allegations that Broadwater pointed a pistol at another Coweta County Sheriff’s Deputy.
The investigation indicates that following roll call at the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, on May 1, 2024, Broadwater was in a disagreement with another deputy. During the argument, Broadwater pulled his service weapon from his holster and pointed it at the other deputy.
Broadwater was booked at the Coweta County Jail.
