GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Henry County
Stockbridge, GA (June 9, 2024) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Henry County, Georgia. The Henry County Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on June 8, 2024. Although no one was shot in this incident, one officer was injured. One man is in custody.
The preliminary information indicates that, at around 4:35 p.m., Henry County Police Officers located a stolen truck on Business Center Drive, Stockbridge, Georgia. During an attempt to stop the stolen truck, the driver, later identified as Daniel Jay Waldrop, age 31, of McDonough, GA, drove the stolen truck towards an officer’s patrol car, hitting the car as the officer was attempting to get Waldrop to stop. The officer shot at Waldrop, but Waldrop was not hit by the gunfire. Waldrop drove away, and officers chased him from the scene, beginning a lengthy car chase. Multiple agencies assisted in stopping the chase and taking Waldrop into custody.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Henry County District Attorney’s Office for review.
