GBI Arrests Damascus Man in Blakely Shooting Investigation

Blakely, GA (April 16, 2024) – The GBI has arrested and charged Alphonso Alemayehu Thomas, age 23, of Damascus, GA, with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime.   

The investigation shows that on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at around 11:20 p.m., Blakely Police Department officers were called to Westview Drive, in Blakely, in reference to a report of gunshots at this location. When officers arrived, they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was taken to a local hospital and later life flighted to a hospital in Alabama for further treatment.
