GBI Investigates Deaths in Millen, Georgia
UPDATE – March 26, 2024:
The GBI has arrested and charged Raheem Whitfield, age 28, of Waynesboro, Burke County, Georgia, with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime in connection to the deaths of Brown and Jones. Whitfield turned himself in and is currently booked at the Jenkins County Jail.
Preliminary information from the autopsy determined that Brown and Jones each had a gunshot wound.

The victims’ injuries have been updated — Law enforcement arrived on scene and found Brown with a gunshot wound and Jones with no immediate signs of trauma.
ORIGINAL RELEASE:
Jenkins, Millen, GA (March 25, 2024) – At the request of the Millen Police Department, GBI agents are investigating the death of Tyrell Brown, age 28, of Garfield, Georgia and Maxine Jones, age 48, of Millen, Georgia.
The investigation shows that on March 24, 2024, at about 1:45 a.m., the Millen Police Department responded to the Annie P. Chance Veteran’s Center located on Acorn Avenue, Millen, Georgia in reference to a shooting. Law enforcement arrived on scene and found Brown with a gunshot wound and Jones with no immediate signs of trauma. Brown and Jones were pronounced dead at the scene.
At about 7:10 a.m., another shooting incident occurred on Wasdin Street which appears to be connected to the first incident. No victims were injured during this shooting.
The bodies of Brown and Jones will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler, Georgia, where a GBI medical examiner will perform autopsies to determine a cause and manner of death.
