UPDATE- March 23,2024 

The man involved in the officer involved shooting has been identified as Martin Candelas Ponce, age 34, of Oakwood, Ga.

Roswell, GA (March 23, 2024) –  At the request of the Roswell Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Roswell, Georgia. One man was shot and is in critical condition. No officers were injured in this incident.  

The preliminary information indicates on March 23, at about 1:15 a.m., the Roswell 911 Center received several calls from staff and patrons at Mazzy’s Sports Bar & Grill on Alpharetta Highway about an unruly patron armed with a gun. Officers arrived at the business and encountered a man armed with a handgun sitting at the bar. Officers gave the man verbal commands to drop the weapon. The man raised the weapon, and an officer shot the man. Officers rendered aid to the man until he was taken to a local hospital for treatment where he is listed in critical condition. The man’s identity is being withheld until agents notify the family about the incident.  

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
