GBI Arrests Lamar County Man in Death Investigation

Barnesville, GA (January 30, 2024) – The GBI has charged Charkinta Ogletree age 31, of Barnesville, Georgia, with Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault. On January 30, 2024, the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI to investigate a shooting incident that occurred in the 700 block Johnstonville Road.  

The investigation shows on January 30, 2024, at about 8:10 a.m., the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a man, later identified as Charles Ogletree, age 64, who was shot and later died on scene. When deputies arrived, they took Charkinta Ogletree into custody. The preliminary investigation indicates Charkinta shot Charles (father) during a dispute.

Charkinta Ogletree is currently booked at the Lamar County Jail.
