Baxley, GA (January 8, 2024) – The GBI has arrested and charged Mako Jones, Jr., age 19, of Baxley, Georgia, with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. Jones turned himself in to the Appling County Jail on January 4, 2024. On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, the Baxley Police Department asked the GBI to investigate. 

The investigation shows that Jones shot Mike Sims, age 31, of Baxley, GA, multiple times while they were near Hopps Street. Sims and Jones were both involved in a dice game at the time of the shooting. Sims was eventually taken to a hospital where he remains in stable condition.
