Mitchell County, Georgia (January 4, 2024) - At the request of the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, the GBI is investigating the death of an inmate in the Mitchell County Jail.

Preliminary information indicates that jail staff were conducting a cell check and found Dylan Gage Knight, age 26, unresponsive in his assigned isolation cell. Life-saving efforts were unsuccessful, and Knight was pronounced dead at the jail.

An autopsy will be conducted by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Atlanta to determine the cause and manner of death.
