Chamblee, GA (December 28, 2023) - The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Chamblee, DeKalb County, Georgia. The Chamblee Police Department (CPD) asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Jeremiah Quincy Kinard, age 24, of Auburn, GA, was shot and injured. No officers were injured during this incident. 

The preliminary information indicates on Thursday, December 28, 2023, CPD officers were near Peachtree Boulevard and Chamblee-Dunwoody Road looking for a stolen Jeep Compass. Officers found the SUV in the parking lot of the Walgreens at 5373 Peachtree Boulevard, Chamblee, GA. Officers tried to contact the driver, later identified as Kinard, who attempted to flee in the stolen SUV. As he was fleeing, a CPD officer shot at Kinard, hitting and injuring him.   

Kinard was taken to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition.  

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
