Fayetteville, Fayette County, GA (December 9, 2023) –  The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Fayetteville, Fayette County, Georgia. The Fayetteville Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on December 9, 2023.  One man, identified as Tavares Sanchez Richardson, age 20, was shot and injured.  No officers were injured in this incident. 

The preliminary information indicates on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at about 4:00 p.m., the Fayetteville Police Department was dispatched to a domestic disturbance involving Tavares Richardson, near Paces Drive and Beauregard Boulevard.  A Fayetteville Police Officer stopped Richardson and asked for ID.   In response, Richardson grabbed a gun from his waistband and began to run.  The officer fired shots and hit Richardson.  Police provided first aid on the scene and took Richardson to Grady Hospital for treatment. 

This investigation is active and ongoing.
