Lumpkin County, GA (December 8, 2023) – The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Lumpkin County, Georgia. The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on December 7, 2023. No one was injured during the incident. 

Preliminary information indicates that at about 2:55 a.m., Lumpkin County deputies were requested by Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies to serve an outstanding arrest warrant on Jody Lee Self, age 42, of Cleveland, Georgia. Lumpkin County deputies traveled to a home in the 2100 block of Emory Stephens Road in Lumpkin County, where they were told that Self would be located. When deputies arrived, they found Self in a SUV outside the home. Self refused to obey verbal commands given by the deputies to get out of the SUV One deputy shot at and hit the SUV while Self was trying to leave the location. Self was arrested in White County, Georgia later that day.  

Self was taken to the Lumpkin County Detention Center.   

In addition to the outstanding warrant for a probation violation, Self was charged with misdemeanor obstruction of a law enforcement officer. 

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the file will be given to the Lumpkin County District Attorney’s Office for review.
