GBI Makes Arrest in Tifton Homicide and Aggravated Assault Investigation

Tifton, GA (December 7, 2023) – The GBI and the Tifton Police Department arrested and charged Izaya Harpe, age 16, of Tifton, GA, with felony murder on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. The arrest is in connection to a shooting that took place in Tifton, GA. 

The preliminary information indicates on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at about 7:40 p.m., the GBI was requested by the Tifton Police Department to assist in a shooting investigation in which Derrick Wilson, age 20, of Tifton, GA, was found dead inside of a vehicle near the intersection of Clay Drive and Ferry Lakes Road in Tifton, GA. Officers responded to this location and found Wilson and two other victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The injured victims were taken to a local hospital where they were treated for their injuries. 

An autopsy was performed on Wilson at the GBI Crime Lab in Macon. 

Harpe is currently being held at a RYDC facility. 

This investigation is active and ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Tift Judicial Circuit for prosecution.
