South Fulton, GA (November 29, 2023) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer involved shooting in South Fulton, Georgia. The South Fulton Police Department (SFPD) asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. One man was shot and killed during the incident. No officers were injured.

Preliminary information indicates that at around 7:00 p.m. on November 28, 2023, SFPD officers responded to the 4400 block of Roosevelt Highway in South Fulton to a 911 call for a sexual assault complaint. The victim reported that a man, later identified as Fred Claud Perkins, age 78, of Riverdale, GA, shot at her and hit her with his gun. When officers arrived on scene, they gathered information on the incident and Perkin’s possible location. As officers approached a shed on the property, they found Perkins. Perkins was armed with a shotgun and shot at officers. Officers returned fire and Perkins retreated into the shed. Later, officers found Perkins dead inside the building. Police found a shotgun with Perkins.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
