Mount Vernon, Georgia (November 22, 2023) – The GBI is investigating an aggravated assault on two deputies from Treutlen and Laurens counties.  On Sunday, November 19, 2023, at about 4:30 p.m., the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Eastman was requested by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and the Treutlen County Sheriff's Office to investigate. 

The preliminary investigation indicates that on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at about 3:45 p.m., a Laurens County deputy initiated a traffic stop on Kadeem Amir Wicker, age 32, of Wrightsville, Georgia, on I-16 for reckless driving. When the Laurens County deputy approached the vehicle, Wicker drove away.  There was a pursuit into Treutlen County, & Treutlen County deputies joined the pursuit.  During the pursuit, Wicker shot multiple rounds at the pursuing deputies from his vehicle. The Treutlen County deputy used a PIT maneuver to end the pursuit in Montgomery County. As a result, Wicker was injured and taken to the hospital where he remains. 

Police recovered a firearm and drugs at the scene of the crash.   

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
