Clayton County, GA (October 26, 2023) – The GBI has charged Jennifer Jones, 39, of Ellenwood, GA, with aggravated assault, kidnapping, battery, and violation of oath of office. On October 17, 2023, the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office asked the GBI to investigate an officer-involved use-of-force incident after the Clayton State University Police Department made the incident known to the District Attorney’s Office and the GBI. 

The investigation indicates that on October 5, 2023, Jennifer Jones, a sergeant of the Clayton State University Police Department, was following leads in connection to the theft of golf carts and automobiles from the Clayton State University campus, including two automobiles stolen from Jones. Jones located a person at an apartment complex near the campus and believed it was the person responsible for some of the thefts. During the contact with the person, Jones hit the person with a collapsible baton multiple times. Jones drove the person around in her patrol car for an extended period, hoping to find a specific vehicle that had been stolen from her. Jones was terminated from the Clayton State University Police Department.  

This investigation is active and ongoing.
