Atlanta, GA (August 9, 2022) - The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Atlanta, Georgia.  The Atlanta Police Department (APD) asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on August 9, 2022.  One man was shot, and he is in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.  No officers were injured.

Preliminary information indicates that at 12:41 p.m., Atlanta 911 received a report of a sexual assault occurring at an apartment.  A responding APD officer encountered a rented U-Haul truck at the intersection of Woodward Drive and Gibson Street.  This intersection is at the center of the apartment complex.  The suspect, Jamaull Jones, age 32, was seated in the passenger’s seat.  The officer made contact with Jones and instructed him to get out of the truck.  Jones did not follow the officer’s instructions and physically resisted.  Jones leaned over the passenger seat and turned toward the officer with a handgun. The officer fired his gun, hitting Jones.  Jones was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is reported to be in critical condition.  No one else was injured during the incident.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation.  Once complete, the case report will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney for review.
