(Douglasville, GA) – On Friday, June 18, 2021, the GBI was requested by the Douglasville Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting. 

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 4:06 a.m., Douglasville Police Department officers responded to the Crestmark Apartment Homes complex located at 945 Crestmark Blvd, Lithia Springs, GA in reference to a domestic/person with a gun call.  The officer arrived and encountered Carlos Jackson, age 43, of Decatur, GA in the breeze way of an apartment building in the complex.  Jackson was armed with a rifle and pointed the rifle at the officer.  The Douglasville police officer fired his gun, striking Jackson.  Jackson jumped from the 2nd floor and ran away from the officer into the woods behind the apartment complex.  At approximately 7:12 a.m., Jackson was located deceased in the woods by members of the Douglasville P.D. SWAT.

No officers were injured during the incident. 

The GBI will continue to conduct an independent investigation and once complete, it will be turned over to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review.
