(Johnson County, GA – May 7, 2021) - On Wednesday, May 5, 2021, the GBI secured arrest warrants for Daniel Payton Brinson, age 22, of Harrison, Washington County, Georgia for two counts of malice murder. The charges stem from the murders of Destiney Hope Kight and Charlie Jaylon Garrett. The investigation revealed that Brinson was a known associate of Garrett. 

Brinson was arrested by the Marietta Police Department on unrelated charges on Monday, April 26, 2021. He is currently in custody at the Cobb County Jail. 

The agencies that assisted in this investigation are the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Wrightsville Police Department, Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Community Supervision Dublin Office.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. 

ORIGINAL STATEMENT

On Friday, April 23, 2021, at approximately 1:00 pm, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 1383 Paul Lord Road in Wrightsville, in reference to two deceased persons. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Destiny Hope Kight, 18, of Wrightsville and Charles Jaylon Garrett, 18, of East Dublin, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
