Fulton County, GA (April 23, 2021) – After a joint investigation of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the Atlanta Police Department (APD), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Atlanta, two people have been arrested on various charges:

  1. Byron Gearing, age 42, of Atlanta, Georgia – Charged with trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking cocaine, trafficking marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (Fulton County Jail).
  2. Joshua Harry Capers, age 42, of Atlanta – Charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and Violations of the Georgia Street Gang Act (DeKalb County Jail).

Earlier this year, GBI Gang Task Force Agents and the Atlanta Police Department initiated an investigation of the criminal street gangs Rollin’ 60’s Neighborhood Crips. Specifically, agents targeted the gangs’ weapons and drug trafficking.

On the morning of April 22, 2021, the GBI Gang Task Force, APD, and HSI Atlanta agents executed search warrants in Atlanta and Sandy Springs. Agents were assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. Agents seized multiple firearms, some of which were reported stolen. Additionally, agents seized evidence of participation in criminal street gang activity and suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and marijuana.

This joint investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional arrests and charges are imminent.

The GBI Gang Task Force is a multi-agency unit that consists of the GBI, the Atlanta Police Department, the Spalding County Sheriff's Office, the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, the Georgia National Guard, and Homeland Security Investigations.
