Update - April 16, 2021:

Greensboro, GA (April 16, 2021) – On Saturday, April 10, 2021, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI obtained arrest warrants for Deron Demond Bell, age 20, of Norcross, Georgia.  The GBI, Greene County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Marshals Service have been actively looking for Bell in connection with the murder of Joseph Lee Briggs, Jr. on I-20 on April 9th.

Greensboro, GA (April 12, 2021) –  On Friday, April 9, 2021, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the GBI was requested by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a death investigation.  At approximately 6:45 a.m., the Greene County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a 911 call about a wreck at mile marker 132 on I-20 in Greensboro, Georgia.  Deputies responded to the area and upon arrival, they discovered Joseph Lee Briggs, Jr, age 30, of Manning, South Carolina was deceased and had suffered what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that Briggs, Jr. while driving on I-20 in Greensboro, Georgia was a victim of road rage.  The GBI investigation remains active and ongoing.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Greene County Sheriff’s Office at 706-453-3551 or the GBI Region 6 office in Milledgeville, Georgia at 478-445-4173.  Tips can also be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS(8477), online at https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online, or by downloading the See Something, Send Something mobile app.
