UPDATE:

Eastman, GA (February 9, 2021) - On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, Corneilous Smith, age 22 of Alamo, and Carl Ivey Jr., age 30 of Eastman, were charged with murder and aggravated assault (2 counts). The charges stem from the December 30, 2020 drive-by shooting in the Sunset Community that caused the death of Demonte J. Ivey and injuries to Alize Lampkin. Ivey, Jr. was taken into custody at the Eastman Police Department and subsequently transported to the Dodge County Law Enforcement Center for booking. Smith was already incarcerated at the time of his arrest on unrelated charges.  This was a joint investigation between the GBI and Eastman Police Department.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:

Eastman, GA – On Wednesday, December 30, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Eastman Field Office was requested by the Eastman Police Department to assist with a shooting that occurred on Lee Avenue, Eastman, Georgia. At approximately 2:51 p.m., two people were shot in an area known as the Sunset Community. Both victims were transported by private vehicles to Dodge County Hospital for medical treatment. Demonte J. Ivey, 22, of Eastman, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The second victim, Alize Lampkin, 23, of Eastman, was treated for his injuries and is expected to recover.  

The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy on Ivey.
