Arrest Made in Americus Homicide Investigation

Americus, GA (January 26, 2021) – On Monday, January 25, 2021, the GBI arrested Jaron Sharod Griffin, 22, and charged him with one count of Felony Murder and one count of Aggravated Assault, for the shooting death of David Joshua Mitchell.

On Saturday, January 23, 2021, the GBI was requested by the Americus Police Department to assist in a shooting death that had occurred in the 1400 block of East Forsyth Street near the Belk department store. Americus Police Department officers responded to the area around 2:19 p.m., along with EMS units, and found the victim, David Joshua Mitchell, 26, in the front seat of his vehicle. Mitchell had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Mitchell was transported to the GBI where an autopsy was conducted.
