GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA (February 9, 2020) – On Sunday, February 9, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that an APD officer was working an off-duty job in a parking lot near Lyfe ATL, 201 Courtland Street SE, Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. 

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Houston County

Byron, Houston County, GA (February 9, 2020) – On Sunday, February 9, 2020, the GBI was requested by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 7:00 AM, four Houston County Deputies responded to 207 Danube Way, Byron, GA in reference to a domestic disturbance call to the 911 Center.  One deputy walked up to the residence and announced that he was law enforcement.

Waycross, GA (February 7, 2020) – On Friday, February 7, 2020, the GBI Douglas Regional Office was requested by the Ware County Sheriff’s Office to assist with an investigation into a shooting.

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Twiggs County

Macon, Twiggs County, GA, 02/05/2020 - On Tuesday, February 4, 2020, the GBI was requested by the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer involved shooting. 

Preliminary information indicates that a Georgia State Trooper was traveling on Highway 57 in Macon, GA when his unmarked patrol vehicle was side swiped by a white extended cab pickup truck.  After the collision, the white truck sped away.  The GSP Trooper initiated his blue lights and siren and attempted to stop the truck. 

Georgia Criminal Street Gang Database Operational

Decatur, GA (February 5, 2020) – Through the collaborative efforts of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the Department of Community Supervision (DCS), and the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC), the Georgia Criminal Street Gang Database (GCSGD) is now operational. The GCSGD is a statewide repository and intelligence database that contains information about various criminal street gangs, criminal street gang members, and associates and criminal street gang activities.

GBI Investigates Shooting and Death in Chauncey, GA - UPDATE

UPDATE: Chauncey, GA (February 4, 2020) – On Monday, February 3, 2020, the GBI Eastman Field Office arrested a 15 year old juvenile in connection with the shooting death of Braydon Stokes. After an extensive investigation, a juvenile complaint was filed for the offenses of felony involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct. A copy of the investigative findings has been provided to Oconee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Timothy Vaughn for prosecution.

Chauncey, GA (November 18, 2019)On Saturday, November 16, 2019, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the Chauncey Police Department along with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the GBI Eastman Office to assist with a death investigation at a residence on Brown Street in Chauncey.

GBI Makes Arrest in 2019 Ocilla Death Investigation

Ocilla, GA (January 31, 2020) – On Monday, January 27, 2020, Jakyke Jarel Anderson, 20, was arrested in Cobb County, Georgia. Anderson was charged with Felony Murder, Malice Murder, and Aggravated Assault in connection with the death of Vincent Wells on January 2, 2019.   Anderson was transported to the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

GBI Arrests Lamar County Man for Terroristic Threats and Acts

Barnesville, GA – On Tuesday, January 28, 2020, Michael C. Hudgins,24, was arrested by GBI Agents for violation of O.C.G.A. 16-11-37, Terroristic Threats and Acts.  In addition to that charge, Hudgins was also charged with theft by receiving a stolen firearm, seven (7) counts of possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer, trafficking methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Pickens County Junior High Teacher Arrested

Jasper, GA (January, 31, 2020)A Pickens County Junior High School teacher has been arrested on four counts of enticing a child for indecent purposes. Gilbert Suarez IV, 38, of Cartersville, GA turned himself in to the Pickens County Detention Center on Friday, January 31, 2020.

Arrest Made in Connection to Long County Sheriff's Deputy's Death

Ludowici, GA (January 31, 2020) – On January 30, 2020, Jerry Jonathan Englum, 22, of Ridgeland, South Carolina, was arrested for Homicide by Vehicle, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, and Reckless Driving. On Thursday, January 23, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation assisted the Long County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol in the events surrounding the death of Long County Deputy Sheriff Sheldon Gordon Whiteman. While assisting in a vehicle pursuit, Deputy Whiteman was involved in a vehicle accident which resulted in his death.
