GBI Investigating Death in Walton County

Monroe, GA (October 17, 2020) -  On Friday, October 16, 2020, at approximately 4:35 p.m., Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call of a person being shot at an address off Jack Glass Road in Monroe, Walton County, GA. When deputies arrived, immediate assistance was provided to the gunshot victim, identified as Henry Thomas McDougal, 27, of Monroe. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. James Lewis McDougal, 31, of Monroe, surrendered to deputies a short time later. He was taken into custody and is being charged with murder. Henry McDougal and James McDougal are brothers. The Walton County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI Athens Office to assist with the investigation. Henry McDougal will be transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur for an autopsy.

GBI Investigates Death in Hancock County

Hancock County, GA (October 16, 2020) – On Thursday, October 15, 2020, at approximately 12:14 p.m., the GBI Region 6 field office was requested to assist the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office with a death investigation.   

GBI and HSI Atlanta Investigation Yields Trafficking Methamphetamine Arrests in Cobb and Cherokee Counties

Cobb & Cherokee Counties, GA (October 13, 2020) – After a joint investigation with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Atlanta, five people have been arrested on trafficking methamphetamine charges.

The following subjects were arrested on October 9, 2020:

Melissa Picardi, age 37, of Atlanta, Georgia charged with trafficking methamphetamine (Cobb County Jail).

Antonio Jamar Laster, age 24, of Nashville, Tennessee charged with trafficking methamphetamine (Cherokee County Jail).

Bryan Hernandez, age 23, of Atlanta, Georgia charged with trafficking methamphetamine (Cherokee County Jail).

Miguel Angel Rayon Gonzalez, age 20, of Atlanta, Georgia charged with trafficking methamphetamine (Cherokee County Jail).

Jesus Cruz-Aguirre, age 19, of Atlanta, Georgia charged with trafficking methamphetamine (Cherokee County Jail).

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting, Domestic Dispute, and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer in Richmond County

Augusta, GA (October 12, 2020). – On Saturday, October 10, 2020, at approximately 5:30 AM, the GBI was requested to assist the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office with an officer involved shooting incident that occurred in the 1400 block of Poplar Street in Augusta.

GBI Makes Arrest in Wayne County Death Investigation

Devante Batton, age 24, has turned himself in to the Bacon County Sheriff's Office.  Our Douglas Office and Kingsland Office would like to thank the Camden County K9 Unit for their assistance in locating Tuck Taylor. 

Alma, GA (October 8, 2020) – On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, GBI agents and Bacon County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested D’vonta O’Neal, 25, of Alma, charged with one count of Felony Murder, one count Party to the Crime of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Party to the Crime of Armed Robbery. Warrants have also been obtained for Devante Batton, 24, of Alma, charged with one count of Felony Murder, one count of Aggravated Assault, one count of Armed Robbery, and one count of Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Crime. Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Devante Batton is encouraged to contact the Bacon County Sheriff’s Office at (912) 632-5161 or the GBI Douglas office at (912) 389-4103. These charges are in connection to the death of Tuck Taylor, who had been missing from Alma, GA since Friday, October 2.

Child Homicide Investigation in Tifton, Georgia

Update - October 10, 2020 

Semaj Antonio Moss, 18, of Tifton, has been arrested and charged with malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault.  He was picked up in Lowndes County by the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and will be transported to the Tift County Jail.

Tifton, GA (October 7, 2020) – On Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at approximately 7:30 AM, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Tifton Police Department to investigate the death of 9-year-old Alazia Johnson.

At approximately 7:20 AM, Tifton Police Officers responded to the Peterson Apartments where Alazia was found stabbed to death.  Agents and investigators are actively investigating this incident as a homicide.  Alazia’s body was taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur where autopsy results are pending.

GBI Positively Identifies Woman Found 39 Years Ago in Dade County

A previously unidentified black female homicide victim found in Dade County, GA on September 28, 1981 has been positively identified as Patricia Parker. Parker was 30 years old at the time of her death. Since 1981, the GBI maintained an open investigation into these remains; however, over the years the case grew cold.

In 2018, prolific and confirmed serial killer Samuel Little gave the Texas Rangers information about the murder he committed in Chattanooga in the early 1980’s of a young, black female. Hamilton County, TN District Attorney’s Office Cold Case Unit (CCU) Supervisor Mike Mathis searched and did not find any unsolved cases in Chattanooga matching this description. CCU Supervisor Mathis contacted the GBI Regional Office in Calhoun, which covers northwest Georgia and borders Hamilton County to inquire if any unsolved GBI cases matched this description. It did match the description related to unidentified remains found in Dade County in 198

GBI Investigates Death in Coffee County - UPDATE

Savionte Traylor has turned himself in to the Coffee County Jail.

Douglas, GA (October 7, 2020) – On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, the GBI secured a Felony Murder arrest warrant for Savionte Torek Traylor, 18, of Douglas, GA, in connection to the death of Ja’rique Johan Brown, that occurred on Monday, October 5. Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Savionte Traylor is encouraged to contact the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office at (912) 384-4227 or the GBI Regional Office in Douglas, GA at (912) 389-4103.

ORIGINAL RELEASE

Douglas, GA (October 6, 2020) – On Monday, October 5, 2020, the GBI’s Douglas Regional Office received a request from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a death investigation.

On Monday, October 5, 2020, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office responded to 367 Creekwood Rd., Douglas, Coffee County, Georgia, in reference to a person found deceased. Upon arrival, deputies found Ja’rique Johan Brown, 15, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Brown’s body will be transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.  As a result of investigative acts conducted by Agents and Coffee County Investigators, a juvenile was arrested and charged with one count of Felony Murder. The juvenile was transported to the Waycross Youth Detention Center in Waycross, Georgia.

GBI Arrests Father in Child Abuse Case

Jasper, Georgia (October 8, 2020) – On Thursday, October 8, 2020, Scott W. Waters, 20, of Jasper, Georgia, was arrested on multiple charges for injuring his 8-week-old infant.  Waters was charged with two counts of cruelty to children, four counts of aggravated battery and one count of aggravated assault.  Waters was booked into the Pickens County Detention Center.
