Lilburn, GA (November 7, 2020) – On Saturday, November 7, 2020, the GBI Atlanta Regional Office was requested by the Gwinnett County Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 12:57 a.m., a neighbor called 911 in reference to a domestic disturbance at 4103 Bent Willow Drive, Lilburn, Gwinnett County, GA. When officers arrived, they located a victim in the back yard, suffering from knife injuries inflicted by Steven Campos, 43, of Lilburn. After treating the victim’s injuries, officers removed the victim from the scene. At one point, Campos exited the residence, presented a firearm, and went back inside the residence. Campos discharged his firearm multiple times towards officers while inside the house. Officers attempted to negotiate with Campos, which was unsuccessful. During this time, officers obtained several arrest warrants for Campos in reference to these actions.

Gwinnett County SWAT was activated and responded to the residence. At one point, Campos walked outside the front of the residence and discharged his firearm at officers. A SWAT officer fired, striking Campos. Officers rendered medical aid, but Campos was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy will be performed by the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office. No officers were injured during the incident.

Once the case is completed, it will be turned over to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office for review.
